What's your worst day on the mountain?

what constitues a bad day for you?
Today looked a little like this:

>two layers of socks today
>already feel tight, gonna tough it out
>turns out im not such a tough guy

>first run
>go switch
>cant carve switch, keep reverting out
>frustrated

>maybe I can nosebutter 180 this knuckle
>nope, forget to flex my skis
>frustrated

>try to Jturn
>ski pops off
>frustrated

>bombing the remainder of the hill
>half ass all of the knuckle airs
>crud everywhere
>cant carve for shit
>frustrated

>feels like im a beginner again
>calves,shins throbbing on the lift
>seek refuge in the soft powder
>powder is completely tracked out
>have to blast through more chop
>frustrated

>lower legs screaming
>upcoming drop off of this tree stump
>gonna safety it
>overshoot it by a mile
>land on the flat backseat, roll out of it into more chop, tumbling away
>feels like my shinbones have shattered
>frustrated

>the same thing happens again on a different jump
>frustrated

>the same thing happens again, but on the same jump
>frustrated

>ski down to parking lot through powder melted into ice on the surface from the sun, fuck whatever snow thats called
>at this point im pretty sure I will never walk again
>take off my boots
>take out the liners
>one of the liners rips
>f r u s t r a t e d

When it's been sunny and warm for two weeks and then there is a cold, windy, overcast day with gnarly flat light and icy moguls everywhere before a storm rolls in. Those days are always worth sleeping in.

>can’t ski without having to stop every 10 feet cause it’s just unbelievably crowed
>park is so crowded it’s almost impossible to hit features cause all 10000 people want to go and none have park etiquette. You would get to a feature and a kid would jump off the side of the lip as you’re about to hit it.

One day I got my boots worked on. I pick em before skiing the next morning. Spend 12 minutes on the shuttle and like 40 minutes getting to the top. I like to put my boots on at the top of the gondi, cause I hate walking in em. I put them on..... weird. There is no footbed. Oh wait this isn't even my fucking boot. The shop gave me the same model boot, it was just someone elses. SMH. SPent an hour getting back to the shop, then another hour coming back up...

Snowed 24'' of fresh pow overnight at Schweitzer mountain. Wake up at the cabin stoked as hell and get ski gear on. Walk outside to find out it rained to the top...

I70 preview of tomorrow morning.

My worst day:
Bring skis home to PA to ski over winter break

Ski two runs, icy as shit

Third run make 3 turns down a run and already at the flat part of the bottom

Sliding sideways to slow down but still cooking, left binding pops off, foot hits the ground, slam super hard and dislocate my shoulder

Go to patrol, they make me do paper work instead of helping

Friend can’t drive stick shift car have to find someone else to drive to the hospital

5 hours later my shoulder is finally is back in place

Only bad day I’ve ever had on the mountain

first time at A bay I literally shit myself on the lift and then within the next 30 minutes I came down with the worst flu Ive ever experienced. Had to stop about 5 times on the drive home to puke my guts out.

My friend triggered an avalanche and thought it buried his brother. We spent 20+ minutes digging with a group who witnessed it. Turns out his brother was already at the bottom. Some corporate ‘silver jackets’ were waiting for us after all that telling us we were going to lose our passes for skiing closed terrain (i didn’t care at the time since my friend was alive). Never did get passes pulled they must have realized ski patrol failed to actually close the terrain.
One time I lost a ski in Jackson Hole Cody bowl near the top. Had to ski to the bottom on one ski which was actually kinda fun. But that was day 1 of the trip so I had to rent fatty skis for the rest of the week which was great cause they broke snowfall record that week but i was broke college student

Today. Hands down. Started the day with plans to head to Jay Peak. I was staying in Burlington cuz I wasn't sure where I would ski this week and most places are about 1-1.5hrs which isn't bad imo. Checked snow report which listed 3 lifts on wind hold but the rest open. That's fine. They're getting snow so I'll take whatever even if it's greens all day. Can't ask for much more on my last day of the season. So drive up there. Last 10-15miles were fucking insane. Snow squalls to whiteout conditions. I pull into the lot and it's the windiest I've ever seen it. Snow is just coming down. Head to pick up my pass and hear someone talking about refunds and rain checks. Fuck. Check my phone. They changed at some point in my drive to "no lifts will spin today". There was about 3-4" on the ground with another 3" predicted through the day. It woulda been a sweet day. So basically I got to see the snow. Touch the snow. But told I couldn't ski the snow. I have never wished for skins more in my life than today.

Determined to ski today I started checking other resorts. Basically everything north of Burlington had nothing more than greens open if anything at all. Therefore I decided to head to Sugarbush butttttt my fucking dumb ass left my IKON pass at my hotel because "I won't need this". Whelp I needed this. Drive 1.5hrs back to hotel. Pick up pass. Drive 1hr to sugarbush and ski for 2 hours on what I would describe as the iciest conditions I have ever skied. Literally everything was a sheet of ice except the mogul troughs where the dusting of the night before had collected. Shitty day partially salvaged by shitty ice and powder moguls.

I felt so defeated. So excited to be let down.


Today was worse than skiing in the rain and fog the day prior.

i am sorry for your loss
sounds extremely frustrating...
I hate hard ice with a passion especially cause half my skis are detuned

>nearly lose a ski trying to get in my bindings because I broke a leash
>feeling queasy on the lift ride, head is throbbing
>start skiing and every bump makes my head feel like it is going to burst
>pull into the trees and puke red gatorade
>feel a little better and try to take another lap
>feeling queasy on the lift again, nearly puke off the lift
>start skiing and head to the trees to puke again
>go back to the truck and drive home
>pull over to puke
>get home and smoke a bowl, shower, and pass out

I kept crashing all day and couldn't land a single trick, lost my ski in pow for a solid 30min, and my ski kept popping off. Ended it early when I was skiing and hit a traverse track going fast and got bucked so hard that I did a half backflip and landed on my back/neck. Had a jarred back for a solid week. Only good part of that day was landing a nose butter 3 in pow, but that hurt my shins very badly.

Lost my phone which also had my debit cards/ID attached last Thanksgiving at Wolf Creek. Had to ask random strangers for gas money to make the 300 miles back home.

If your talking about the day like maybe 2 months ago I remember that shit. Drove all the way up from post falls just to turn around and go home. Turned into a sheet of ice

It was from years ago but there is at least 1 day a year that happens up there. The ice thing is real. I was bombing down Lakeside chutes years ago and the top 1/3 was pow then suddenly hit an ice sheet where it rained. I hit the ice and yardsaled about 300 yards. That one hurt like hell.

cmon man sometimes it helps to commiserate and know that you're not the only one who's had completely wasted days on the mountain.
