How does Helly Hansen stack with the rest of them?

Done some searching, haven't seen anything relevant in the last 5 or so years (there a reason for this?) Seem to be popular here on the East Coast, but often spot women wearing the gear. I like the clean look, but does it perform well for recreational use?

Awesome. Just wasn’t sure if it was a ladies brand or outerwear that looks supercedes performance. I pulled the trigger on the Legendary Pants and Jacket, was having a bit of buyers remorse. Think you may have changed my mind.

Doesn't matter what size you are. Get the biggest size they sell cause that shit fits like cling wrap.

The resort I work at supplies helly hansen to the employees. It’s the first season this gear has been worn and the waterproofing leaves a lot to be desired if I’m being honest... we’re halfway through the season, and I’m already having issues with a wet ass. Last season we had 3 yr old mountain hardware gear and the waterproofing on that was better. Just my experience. It’s not my style either

This is great feedback, just curious if HH uses their own proprietary waterproofing, meaning something other than the industry standard GORETEX. Also would resort employees be more demanding than a recreational weekend warrior.

Thats likely because your resort outfit is of the absolute lowest grade of Helly Hansen available.

We have HH where I work as well, and the waterproofing/breath-ability can't be more than 10k, Heavy weight and keeps you warm in dry weather but not so good for storm weather. Go look at their higher grade shit and you'll find the same quality as arcteryx etc..

They were straight up fire back in the day when Pollard was on their team. Look up the survival suit/fart bag that they had put a few years ago( look in Idea). The only reason one pieces made a come back is because of them. Then they dropped their team, and decided to pick a fight with Patagonia and Arcteryx. Not too sure how that’s working out for them.

Helly Hansen work gear is terrrrible. Had it for the past 4 years and every fucking year we complain about the waterproofing and they don’t give a fuckkkkk.

This. We got 60% off any Helly Hansen product at Aspen and I used that to go big with their top of the line shell jacket. Been going on two years of rough use (I’ve hit trees, rocks, fresh snow every now and then) and it’s held up like a tank. Definitely worth spending a little more for the better stuff.

They have a work wear line for employees/people working in the ski industry (shit) and then they have their general public line which is made wayyyy better than their work wear.

If it was coming from inside my pants then I must be peeing on myself and not know it lol for real tho, I live where we get a lot of storm days and super dry snow, and after one chairlift ride in my work pants, I’m soaked for the rest of the day. Not the same with my flylow pants that I wear on my days off, or even with the mountain hardwear gear we used to have. But it seems like it’s just the industry employee gear that’s not great

That I don’t know. I don’t recall seeing any goretex labels on my work gear. But you ask a great question, and yes I’d say resort employees probably demand better quality gear just because we’re out there more often than the avg weekend warrior. But like a couple others have said, it sounds like their industry employee gear doesn’t compare to their regular stuff!
