I see alot of peeps just skiing the park all day that are insane rippers, however, once they leave the park or on pow days, they look like tourists. Who thinks all-mountain ripping is important, who thinks park is all that matters...

it's all personal preference. who cares? i like to carve once in a while and don't look like a tourist, but some people may not like to. the park is addicting.

it depends where you live. here on the eastcoast i usually spend my whole day in the park cause its all i got

you can't call yourself a skier if all you can do is park, you have to be able to do big mountain aswell to classify as a real ripper.

Personally, I can't get enough of those groomers! Those first carve lines down the fresh courdoroy, it feels nice. Then when thats messed up you go hit whatever else there is on the mountain.

I think the two kinda go hand in hand, I'v never seen anybody who was really good at one but terrible at the other.. its whatever floats your boat though, its all skiing.

Personally I'd rather ski steeps, pow, or trees with decent snow than park anyday. But when the snow's not so hot park's where it's at. I have way more respect for people who can ski big mtn.

its all skiing.......whatever's fun, do it. but i agree being able to ride all mtn terrain helps park skiing a lot. the point is: GO SKIING.

ya im a big fan of the steeps. I would rather ski em with some fresh/decent snow then stay in the park. I also like to do a couple mogul runs a day.

troublemaker just cause you live in fucking austrailia with huge ass mountains everywhere doesnt mean that everyone else has that opportunity. i hate the 'real skier' bullshit, if you wana spend your whole life in the park and you enjoy that, then there's nothing wrong with that. if you only wana ride big mtn theres nothing wrong with that either. either way you're both real skiers and doin what you love

Yeah but just being a park skier is more like being a gymnast or an aerials skier. What sets apart a park rat from an aerial skier? All you do is stand at the top of the inrun, point your skis and do a trick in the air. Same thing with aerials. And not many people consider aerial skiers 'real skiers'. Skiing is skiing, as in knowing how to ski, knowing how to turn your skis....Park skiing is kind of venturing into the gymnast area if thats all you do.

Personally, I like to ski all mountain in the morning until the snow gets smooshed and messed up then I ski park cause the snow isn't nice anymore. It's a nice balance, but you won't see me in the park on a powder day.

i think its awesome when people know how to do everything. people dont ski with their skis close together anymore. those were the days when your ankles were touching. kids these days in the park cant even ski up to the lip. i think its important to have skill all over the hill.

Lanks - You honestly consider an aerielast a real skier? I personally think they are def more than a gymnast....I maen what skiing do they do? The part of 'skiing' that they do that makes them the best in their sport is their aerial moves. You cant ski in the air. Im using the term 'ski' in the traditional sense...like actually being able to ride a ski and turn it.

Im not saying they are fake skiers, come on man dont say that. Thats just trying to redicule my post. Im being serious, I really think there is no 'skiing' skill involved in aerials....all you have to have is a good air sense. YOu could totally suck at bumps, powder, glades, groomers and skiing, but still be an awesome aerial skier.

hahah they arent limited to just huge flips and spins.....Oh I wasnt aware that aerialist did anything BUT that. I mean im sure they can ski groomers on their free time, but im talking about how they ski 99% of the time, the majority of it.

They are good skiers. In that certain discipline. They dont need to be incredibly well rounded to succeed in that discipline. there are so many aerialists that are actually just gymnasts but decide to break into aerials, never have been on skis before then.

How am I fighting a losing battle? What is their whole sport(aerials) judged on? Hmmm could it be flips and spins in the air? Yesssssssss it is!!!!!

Now follow me on this one, is spinning in the air with skis on 'skiing'? Is going to the water ramps at park city in the summer and going straight, then hitting a jump and spinning 'skiing'? No, I dont think it is. So how is aerials any different? Please tell me that lanks, you are cleary wrong.

ok you have a point about big air. But then again big air is just a huck fest anyways. With slopestyle you actually have to be able to land, either switch or normal and ski in control to the next jump/ rail.

yes, their discipline is mostly judged on the flipping and spinning portion. but dont forget that they stomp their tricks clean from 30 feet up and ski away clean. or at least thats the point.

however, you think all aerialists do is hit their kickers, flip and spin, stomp, then hike the kickers again? absolutely not. that would be just plain stupid; their body would be a wreck after one season. they ski runs; they are skiers like you and i and need a break from the aches and pains of freestyle. and generally (because i cant speak for every aerialist), they are kickass all around skiers.

And honestly you cant tell me that slopestyle takes anymore skill in actuall skiing? Slopestyle courses are groomed green or blue runs...anyone that has skied more than 5 days in their life could ski from jump to jump, they may not be able to hit the jumps....but thats not the point. YOu can get from landing to takeoff with minimal skill.

Lanks - How do you know they are generally kick ass skiers and spend alot of time just skiing groomers and cruising? Have you competed in aerials? Do you know many aerialists? Or are you just talking out of your ass and hoping you are right....

Fact is anyone with more than 2 days on the hill can ski the same run the terrain park is on....so the actual skiing part doesnt take much skill. All you do is go straight and make a few casual turns on a groomer, that doesnt require much physical prowess. In the air is a different story though...

i hate name dropping. but alas. jeff bean, an olympic aerialist, (who i believe has a bronze?), skis at my home mountain. he was rocking scratches for the longest time. he has steeze too. but take my word for it; he can ski. and essentially i am basing my argument on him.
