How to manage edge cracks

File, clean, score as best as I can (so the epoxy will hold), epoxy, and clamp for a day or two.

I'd be interested to hear from a ski builder:

Are there edges made specifically for park skis? Edges are hardened to some degree, too hard and they're more brittle and more likely to crack, too soft and they disappear pretty fast. I'm assuming ski edges for your typical all mountain ski are hardened as much can be allowed before they crack under normal use, but this isn't necessarily optimal for park skis. Maybe some different alloys could be looked at being used. Might cost a few bucks more but there are probably some alloys out there that are more resistant to cracking without sacrificing too much hardness.

I believe that the crack happen partially because of heat change from friction on the rails to the cold snow causing it to break, maybe an alloy that can handle the temperature change better

From some rooting around, most producers (if they quote it at all) will quote Rockwell HRC 48 steel hardness edges. Interestingly armada posted a blog in 2016 written by logan imlach which suggests that some companies will pick a softer alloy on park skis to promote deformation rather than cracking, not something I've ever seen advertised by a company though, which you would think as something which sets you out from the rest would be something to shout about. So it would seem you can get "park specific" edges.

Look if you're hitting rails you're going to crack your edges. Continuing to slam a smaller piece of metal on a bigger piece of metal, something is going to give. It's part of the game. You just gotta live with it until the ski really gives out then get some new ones and start the process all over.

Any void (edge crack) is going to fill with water and freeze when you're skiing, expanding, making delam worse, increasing the chance of edge rip out.
So while you're on the road to edge rip out, as anything you're going to put in will likely still come out, its worthwhile to force something which bonds to metal, either with a needled syringe or simply pushing it in with a scraper/little plastic paddle, if you're really on a budget and need your skis to last.
Best way to manage edge cracks from rails from the beginning is to buy skis from brands that use thicker than standard edges (like us) and detune before you use them (or buy from brands that factory detune, like us), wipe down your skis with a towel after skiing to prevent rust, and after every rail sesh gummy stone away any roughness or burrs, this will reduce any grabby-ness of you edges on hits, then any cracks you do eventually get, fill in with metal bonding epoxy.
It's a constant effort but wiping down and deburring should keep you going decently without edge tear outs.
