I care more about the courses some years. I do work in terrain parks for a living though so I'm always down to nerd out on layouts.

I feel like this side of the sport has dropped way off the map. 10 years ago x games was it. Holy grail. Everyone watched and athletes threw down!

Now, I didn’t even realize it was coming up until I booked a trip there and made sure it was not that weekend.

I mean there really was that 90s culture going on when it spawned. Also the fact that you weren't seeing videos of people throwing down all year round. It was like "Omg, much watch the xgames" when they were on. Same with the pipe contests. It was kind of all you saw.

I think some of it comes down to age as well. I remember walking 2 miles from the mountain once as a kid to watch winter xgames at my dads work. Now I like to watch it, but it's def not as magical. Hell even the olympics is kind of backround watch kind of stuff these days.

Maybe it's us, maybe it's them, maybe it's everything. Idk

We need like steep ass short ass up rails like they have in skateparks so you can do like 50/50 to backflip or sth

I wish more terrain parks were more inspired by skateparks. Also I miss the giant matrushka doll in the Sochi Olympics lol

I agree with you, but I'm not sure it would work well with comps (at least yet). One thing the Olympics showed, is that even if the course is bringing new creative lines, when the comp gets serious we rarely see the creative potential of the course being fully used by all the riders. Even though creative lines actually gives point (look at Red Gerard), comp riders are still too formatted to more standard courses or too scared to lose technicity over creativity.

So fucking true. Glad to know I’m not the only one who thought this. So many badass gap potentials in both Olympic slopestyle courses and everyone took the same route and jumped onto the same rails.

Competitive freestyle skiing has a lot of room to progress outside of jumps. Tbh when it comes to jumps it’s kind of gone over the top. MAybe bigass jumps should just be removed from slopestyle entirely and we can focus on huge tricks in Big Air.

Useless probably. They basically only use the features that allow them to keep the most speed for the bigger jumps. If there's a slow wail feature it's never used, and most of the rail get uses as ramps anyway.
