Anyone on NS have a crosstrek? If so, how good is it in the snow and is it a reliable car? I'm looking to get one. does anyone have a lift kit or any mods done to theirs? Feel free to post pics.
Subarus are great in the snow. Also why worry about mods? Can't a car just be a car? 2 guys I work with have them and love them. Ive only owned foresters also love them. A few people have outbacks and love them. Lot at work is pretty much pickups and subarus with the random honda etc thrown in.
If you’re looking at the crosstrek, also consider the Impreza. It’s basically the same car with a lower suspension, so it’s got a lower price and much better gas mileage. I didn’t need the extra clearance, so I went with the Impreza and love it.
If you haven’t owned a Subaru before, they’ve got great safety ratings and great reliability, but expect to pay a little more when you do need repairs. Gas mileage isn’t as good as their competitors due to the AWD system and extra weight that comes with it, but gas mileage on all models has been getting better since the 2012 models, so look for something 2012 or newer. There is a hybrid crosstrek, but it’s pricey, hybrid Impreza is not sold in the US because ????
Hope this helps!
source: have owned 2 Subarus and my cousin is a Subaru mechanic
The crosstrek is just a lifted impreza. Not a bad car, but pretty slow. Don't get the automatic, because cvts are junk. The manual is pretty good though.
Subarus are fun, and I've loved the two that I have. Expect repairs to be a little pricier, but they tend to have less "big" issues than other brands. They come with the check engine light on from the factory but they will continue to run with said light on forever.
And to answer your question about if the crosstrek can be modified...there's not much that I'm aware of that you can do to the engine outside of air intake and exhaust but.....
LP Adventure sells a boatload of offroading mods for crosstreks, foresters, and outbacks
Just bought a 2019 Crosstrek back in September and I love her so much. Coming from a front wheel drive car, this thing makes me feel so much safer in snow. I was between the forester and Crosstrek, and the Crosstrek is the same length and width as the forester, just not as tall. And it’s about $5000 cheaper than the forester, so that’s why I chose it. I needed a bit more ground coverage than the Impreza. It’s not for everyone, but it fits my me and my lifestyle so well and I’m so happy with it.
