Scariest / sketchiest chairlifts ?

I’ll start off by stating that I’m pretty bad with heights... been on a few jank double chairs @ tiny ski areas that have freaked me out.

What is the scariest chairlift you’ve ever experienced? (pictures if you’ve got em)

The high speed quad at loon that goes from camp III to north peak. The last pole length is like 100 something feet and it bounces around right after you put the bar up. Thing used to be pretty terrifying.

Lutsen in northern MN has a 2 seater that has the arm of the chair attached in the middle, with no arm rests on the sides and a low back rest. Basically like an old rope swing with a 2x4 hanging on it.

Not super sketchy since it doesn't get too high and is still in decent shape, but it's pretty long and slow, taking stuff out of your pockets or moving around is a bit more tedious.

The triple chair at west mtn. The old center pole double was pretty beat too but they replaces that 3 years ago.

Not super sketchy since it doesn't get too high and is still in decent shape, but it's pretty long and slow, taking stuff out of your pockets or moving around is a bit more tedious.


That Bridge lift is from the early 70s and is definitely in need of an upgrade, especially with as much traffic as it gets from people returning to the base from Moose and Mystery. The Eagle Mountain double at least has a foot rest...

Marte lift in Las Lenas is incredibly sketch. It's been knocked down and rebuilt multiple times, and as you might imagine, lift maintenance in Argentina is not exactly on the level you are used to in the states or Europe.

Shit just remembered Utah doesn't have the bar. I am not into heights and like the bar unless the lift is insanely short.

Snow Ghost at Schweitzer can get pretty sketchy at times. Its a classic middle bar double that goes at least 30' over rocks right before the midway unload and often times there is zero visibility.

I was on spillway at loaf when it fell. /claim

also the Zugspitze tram, right before they closed it for wind hold. Stopped at the highest point swinging pretty violently with the wind. Has a stupid high drop below. Feels Like a thousand feet.

Magic carpets are actually the most dangerous piece of machinery that a resort can have.

Ski Bowl's upper bowl lift is sketch.

The towers look scary and you just start swinging sometimes and slam the guides on the tower. One time my gf got tossed pretty good in the chair riding solo and slamming the tower guide. She was not stoked to get back on.

The old Teepee Town chairlift was kind of sketch. You got scooped up at Mach 3 by a 2 person chair from 1979, always super windy because it’s built next to a cliff and super slow when it wasent stopped from windholds

love the loaf but I have very little confidence in their lifts

Timberline WV.

The lift pole completely snapped two seasons ago and what did the do? Simply welded it and called it good. It doesn't help that it takes nearly half an hour to climb 1000 vertical feet along with the fact the lift is very old. Same thing with their other lift if it gets full the counter weight bounces. Yesterday the main lift (the one that fell) had a bearing screw up AND it broke down. The owners have also got charged with tax evasion and haven't paid utilities. The bar/grill failed inspection. Nearly every employee quit due to withhold of pay. The lodge is falling apart. One of the owners said she would rather "let the place run into the ground before she sold it". Creatons

The race team came in and gave them a shit ton of money so it's prolly not gonna happen. They haven't even talked to their park crew
