Boots for bootpacking?

What are some good snow hiking boots? Some good bootpacks around Mammoth have no approach and I like using my alpine setup. It sucks hiking in alpine boots so I'd like something waterproof with good soles to hike in. Any suggestions?

Get ski boots with the replaceable rubber toe and heel and they won’t ice up as bad as race boots. Ski boots are the best for booting in snow. If you have a long way to go before you get to snow wear running shoes that won’t take a lot of pack space.
