Does Mt Hood Meadows Offer the gnarliest indbounds terrain in OR?

To me, an individual whom has been to every ski resort in Oregon (including Ashland AND Anthony Lakes) I would have to say that Mt Hood Meadows with all of it’s creeks, canyons, cliffs, and parks have the gnarliest indbounds terrain in all of Oregon.
Mt Bachelor May have the most terrain but if we are honest only Summit and NW have the gnarly pitches.
Skibowl’s Upper Bowl And Outback are pretty gnarly but outback never opens anymore and upper bowl has such short lines that if you get injured your chance of getting rescued by Patrol in under 5 minutes are 100% higher tthan if you were to get injured at Meadows.
This has lead me to ask the question
is Mt Hood Meadows the Gnarliest Resort?

That's impressive if you've made it to every resort in OR man, been a dream of mine for a long time, but bad winters make half of the ski hills not open anymore.
Spout Springs, Warner Canyon & Cooper Spur are my last three to go.

As for gnarly terrain in OR, I believe you are right that Meadows is the best considering inbound lines only.
S&R is the real deal. Upper Bowl was always fun, but you're right way too short.
Willamette Pass does have a run which reaches 52 degrees, RTS.

However if you consider the B,C, than the state is chock full of gnar big mountain terrain.

Take some pretty big offense with this comment.

Grew up at Crystal for 5+ years, shredded baker through college, and have more than a handful of days at stevens, and hurricane ridge.

Moved down to Oregon 3 years ago and have had passes at skibowl and meadows all three, plus a handful of days at bachelor.



As far as Meadows go there is no resort in WA that has the same volume of steep terrain with an as sizable park as meadows other than stevens pass. But the issue here is that 2 is a fucking nightmare and drive time from downtown Seattle is easily 2 hours compared to an an hour and half from dt portland, and the season is much less. if you compare sidecountry, I think meadows takes the cake. but if you aren't talking about resort access, stevens pass itself has far superior backcountry. but that's not what you said. There are other resorts that beat meadows as far as steepness and difficulty ie Baker. but that's not really fair, it's like comparing a ferrari to a ford raptor. Baker doesn't have a crew working there asses off to create sick parks littered throughout the resort.

hahah you're not wrong.

Ill come back to this thread when your seasons done and I still got another month an a half of sunny park days and your asking friends for passes to tline. BUT you could just buy a spring pass for $100 to meadows that would make your money back in 1 weekend of coming down and you could keep skiing. another perk of meadows i guess.

Any other resorts in WA open right now with big park until memorial day weekend like meadows? or are you gonna have to come down to hood? Ah don't worry bout it man, there always next year right? Unless your resort sold out to vail and they are bulldozing your park for a new bunny lift for family-friendly runs hahah

I prefer to ride more all mountain than park and grew up without one for the most part. But it has to be considered right? I mean I guess maybe not quality specifically as a factor. But it aids in the mountain as a whole for selection right? I guess what i was saying is that each unto there own. If you want all mountain choose a mountain thats gearde towards that heavily. But if you like both than pick something that has a good selection of both. And steven and meadows have a good selection of both. I was just standing up for my mountain, and against the claim that meadows is worse than anything in Washington.

This isn't a debate about whether or not alaska in general is better than anywhere else. I'd leave meadows tomorrow to go to alaska. Its a debate about meadows vs other mountains in its region of Oregon. And then this dingus stepped in and started talking about how anything is better than that. which I disagree with.

I mean the park matters to a pretty small segment of people, most people who might take a lap through the park dgaf about the quality. Terrain parks aren't bringing money into a resort, to most people it doesn't matter at all, I wouldn't be surprised if we see less and less parks in the future because all that matters in the ski resort industry is making money.

Defining the resort is certainly a subjective matter, but in the context of this thread, were talking about "gnarly inbounds terrain" and meadows is not on the top of that list.

For the sake of most people on this site, I hope your first statements final claim is not true and parks are not dying. I think that's a pretty pessimistic view. But I do agree that it isn't the money maker. I never said anything about park quality. Your inital statement was a bout overall resort quality not park quality. and when I case on a jump that wasn't built with the quality cause of speed or other jump related issue, I care. Though to your point, I don't have any right to complain as my money towards the reosrt is barely paying for the park.

You are correct, the simple question was asked about Meadows having the gnarliest inbounds in OR........ The answer is yes. Bachelor would be 2nd after them then Ski Bowl 3rd in my opinion. I get a pass to Meadows every year because it is the more challenging resort on Hood and closest to me but it still isnt very challenging compared to other big mountains out in the West.

Lol where? S&R, God's, Endor, Elk are all ten times gnarlier than the wildest lines at bachelor. Bachelor is freaking sick though and it's one of my favorite hills, but I don't go there for the gnar

the state in general or just the resorts in general? either way big statement. I think WA is a better place to live but I think a lot of that's personal preference and I grew up there.

Its not bad if there is enough snow. This season was good but the few priors were not so good.

True statement. When it's good though, Upper Bowl/Outback has some of the steepest/gnarliest shit on Hood.

Snow wise if Skibowl was consistent I would easily regard it as my favorite place to ski on Hood. When it is snowing there it is hands down my favorite place to ski. Meadows also is very fun and does have some very fun and challenging terrain. This was my 9th season living in Oregon and riding Hood and I still continue to find new terrain at Meadows. I love riding both those places and laugh at (and silently thank) all the kooks who scoff at Skibowl as they drive by to Meadows and Timberline.

I was there. You are right, the last few seasons Ski bowl has had some good days. I am thinking of the prior seasons when I first moved here in 2014, those first few seasons sucked bad! I had a fusion pass those first 2 seasons and I didn’t get my money’s worth so from then on I have skied Meadows. I am just considering the average snow fall into the equation of this question which they both get pretty much the same storms but Meadows seems to always have more and nicer snow due to being up a little higher in elev.

sorry we like our volcanoes to be tourist free, Rainier, Baker, and Adams could all be world class resorts that could take the cake over Hood.

You wont regret it, except for when the weather is awful and most of the decent terrain is closed off, which now that I think about it is most of the time
