Hey NS, was on my CSIA Level 2 course today (/claim) and we had a mix of freezing rain and super wet snow. My jacket became absolutely saturated and basically froze solid. I've was looking into getting a new jacket at the end of last season but never pulled trigger. I'm not planning on buying online as I'd definitely like to try it on in person. I'd just like some opinions on brands or specific jackets that I can look at in a couple shops in my local area that'd be suitable. Looking for something insulated and at least 20k waterproof if not Gore-tex.

Volcom does a stupid cheap insulated gore tex with a taller, slim-ish fit. I think Armada stuff is fairly reasonable too.

gore-tex or bust.
i've also found i can keep myself warmer/dryer/more comfortable for the conditions with layers and a solid gore-tex shell versus an insulated jacket.
a thin puff jacket under a shell is a winning ticket.
