Adderall

I take adderall every once in a while to study and every time I take one it just blows my mind that we give this stuff to 12 year olds. I understand that certain people might really need it for ADHD but ADHD is so overdiagnosed at this point and I think anyone prescribing it needs to take one sometime to really see how much of a zombie it makes you and how weird you feel on the comedown. Obviously it affects people with severe ADHD differently but it's still crazy to me that people are feeding their 5th graders what is basically speed every day. Figured maybe I can get some different opinions in here from people who are prescribed it to possibly change my view, because my knowledge of it is admittedly pretty limited.

Common sense says it's not for 12 year olds. Medical science says it's pretty safe in the prescribed amounts though. Still has to be kinda fucked experience for any kid that takes it. I still vividly remember some crazy dream type experience from some sudafed type cold medicine I took as a kid and it was not what I'd consider kid friendly. I was medically safe sure but I was super scared like a bad trip. Kids I've met that take it all hate it and try to get out of it or hide their pills and I don't blame them. IMO it should be reserved for people that have already experienced super scary shit and that are already hardened to the world e.g. GIs that are trying to stay up all night fighting in the trenches.

When I went to CU Adderall was everywhere. I knew kids that snorted it to party, used it to stay up for 4 days straight during finals and even chilled with a guy once that literally didnt sleep at all during the week then slept all day Sunday. I even saw a kid literally fall asleep on his feet during a class presentation because he had been up for a few days on that stuff. One of the most messed up things I have seen was a kid desperately try to take a resin hit by lighting the end of his bong bowl and sucking in butane because he was too wigged out from taking Adderall and playing guitar hero for hours. Seriously fuck that stuff. You dont need it to study, just manage your time so you are not cramming all night before tests and you are good.

You've clearly never seen one of these kids off their adhd meds before. Some are true terrors. Yeah some docs may be a little quick to jump the gun on prescribing to some kids, but there's a lot out there who really need it and are both verbally and physically violent if they miss a dose or just can't calm the hell down and focus.

P. S. I've seen 8 year olds on 60mg/day!!!

BTW someone that has ADHD has the opposite effects than someone that doesn't, is someone that has ADHD has coffee it actually calms them down.
