Vail resorts has finally done it.

I have purchased an epic pass from vail ever since the introduction, while I've had my griefs sometimes such as getting stopped by yellow jackets for going too fast etc. The ability to ski so many resorts for a cheap price since I average 55-60 days a season has always been worth it over the bullshit. Until I pulled up to the keystone mountain house lot by the Peru chair that I noticed all parking in this area is now $10 every single day. The frustration being in mountain house parking lot there has been a pay lot and free lot since its inception. Of the 40 some days at keystone I ski a season the pay lot was only full 1/4th of the time. Of course vail has gone Rockefeller mode and made every lot in the area pay lot now. Leaving the only free lot in all of keystone the main lot that fills up quickly on a weekend. Why Vail must you go acquire resorts in Japan and force lower 48 US skiers to deal with this bullshit? I parked at that lot almost every day I skied keystone last season, meaning I would have to drop $400 a season on parking if I were to continue my ways. Therefore I have made a petition in attempt to make the mountain house lot free on the weekdays at keystone. I would appreciate your signatures, thanks.

Park somewhere else and take the bus in. Or just fork up $10 and ski. Piss on the bathroom floor or put a icon sticker on their chairlift to get back. That will really show them.

Thanks man appreciate the insight, I thought about this in class an hour ago so it's still in the grassroots phase as of now. I have much more planning/writing to do. Gotta push back to make sure our suffering doesn't go unnoticed. All this just to make Bill Lumbergh's stock go up a quarter of a point.

This whole thing is only in the grassroots phase as of now, I am brainstorming more events for the future, and am going to improve on the change.org writeup ASAP. Thanks for the critique

I'm 20 years old broke and in college, sorry I'm not happy. There are 2 free parking lots at copper, All lots at Arapahoe Basin are free, The gondola lot at Breck is free during the week, there are 4 free lots at winter park, etc. Those are all front range resorts within 30 mins of keystone. All I'm asking is if all these resorts can do it why can't keystone?

I didn't say it doesn't suck, I actually said it does. Everyone getting to a fuck vail frenzy again is just stupid though. Where are you commuting from? Every dollar counts I get it, but you're still paying for gas etc when you're skiing there.

Also why bring up Breck, that's Vail too. I guess maybe so if they ever charge for that lot you can make another thread?

I don't hate vail, I really think what they've done for skiing as a whole is good. Being able to ski park city last year without having to buy a lift ticket was awesome, but my goal is to try and get this one thing reversed. If you want to sign the petition and try and help thank you, if not no problem. I understand other mountains have expensive parking, and skiing is in no way a cheap sport but it hurts the wallet for them to make this change. Considering as to keystone isn't the most vast/ technical mountain either. Hypothetically speaking If a legendary mountain like Squaw valley is going to charge $70 for underground parking on mountain I totally get that. But for Keystone to be charging $10 for a completely unchanged dirt lot EVERY DAY of the week is what set me off.....

Anything at most mountains goes to "wow that kind of sucks". Everything at Vail goes to "FUCK VAIL DOWN WITH THE CORPORATIONS" Idk, even if you're OP wasn't leaning that way as hard as some of the replies, everything turns into that.

It's just annoying as fuck. We get it people, Vail is evil and fucked your girlfriend and never called her back, then slashed your tires and took a dump on your porch. I understand, but do we need to do this EVERY time vail does legit anything.

To be honest I don't expect it to change anything, but I'd at least like to try. Like I said earlier I really think vail has done more good than bad in the ski world. It's given essentially a blank check to many resorts and because of that there are so many more jobs in ski towns that were once not there.

Im not sure if this has been around a while, Ive never seen parking fees for skiing, especially when youre at the resort you already paid $800 to ski at.

Gondola lot at Breck is not free during the week. You have to park at airport road and take the bus if you don't want to pay at Breck. There is still a free lot at Keystone, you just have to get there early enough. Yes, it sucks that the lot at Peru isn't free any more, but if you got there early enough to get a parking spot in the past, then you shouldn't have a problem getting a parking spot in the free lot at River Run.

Of course, next year there probably won't be any free lots at Keystone, since they're working on getting the River run turned into a pay lot too and then it'll be just like Breck, Vail, Beaver Creek, and basically every other Vail Resort. But for now, I don't really see why it's such an issue with you since there's still a free lot that's within walking distance of the lifts. Or you can just take the bus from that lot over to Mountain House. This really isn't a huge inconvenience. Save your protests for when they start charging for all the lots.

PC is probably going to end up doing the same shit soon, there are two lots on the PC side that if you've been to PC before, theyre not very big. For now, theyre free, but they're way too close to the resort, Vail will make them pay lots eventually, because thats what vail does is make as much money as possible.

Solution? Ski somewhere else, vail aint changing my dude.

I've never been to a ski resort with pay parking. I've never skied outside of Canada though, so maybe it's just another one of those shitty American things to do like suing people or electing shitty presidents.

Ight ima way in here as an east coast skier. To me the idea of pay to park is pretty insane, as that's not a thing out here. And as far as the people who say the fuck vail era should be over, I strongly disagree. Vail has finally made their way over here and lemme say it sucks. First place they bought is Stowe, on of the best places if not the best place to ride (terrain wise) in the east. First season of ownership they ban open alcohol (kinda understandable with their whole corporate thing, can't be too mad), and snowballs, yes SNOWBALLS. Like why do you actually care people pretty much only throw them at their own friends. The main reason I'm mad about this is because these are things that make Stowe, Stowe. And Stowe closed 3 weeks earlier despite having more snow than in years past.
Now the next thing Vail does is buy Okemo. I rode Okemo for the first 6 years I skied, and I know it like the back of my hand. So what was a $400 season pass turns into an $800 season pass(granted you get like 18 other mountains but I don't need those anyway). Also they opened 2 weeks later than the other resorts they have opened on par with in the last few season.
So, I bought a Mount Snow pass because I'm gonna go as long as I can without riding Vail. So whoever thinks that Vail is for the better, as far as out east they've only made things worse.

Here is the deal with all of these companies. They specifically market every pass towards one group of people. Rich families who are going to pay for it and only use the fucken pass 5 or 6 times and never get their moneys worth. They are all about making money and could give less of a fuck about anything else. You got my signature.

The first paid skiing I ran into was at Gore in NY like 12 years ago. 20 bucks for the frnt lot. Still had plenty of other parking but it sucked midweek if the shuttles werent eunning and tou had to walk across an empty paid parking lot to get to the slope.

Idk, a lot of places charge, some dont. $10 really isn't terrible but I get that it isn't free.

Idk. Most places Ive skied that have paid parking have some out there lot you can shuttle or walk from but some dont.

It sucks, I just hate when anything vail does turns into a fuck vail discussion.

Mount snow wasn't a cheap season pass at all till a couple years ago when they did the stratton ms deal. Now that drifter pass is a hell of a deal.

Peak resorts isn't exactly mom and pop either but they do well enough with parks to focus on them places.

Also wasn't stowe like $1200 for a season pass before vail? I'm not talking some crazy deal on a youth pass. I remember looking it up and it being significantly cheaper. Not sure the numbers though.

Somebody should just open a ski area that's free somewhere, with free parking, free cheeseburgers, car camping, no clow zones, sick park, etc. Then everyone can just go there and stay core as fuck.

Also in efforts to not argue anymore. I don't like a lot of things Vail does. Also not a fan of paying /paying to much to park.

Every season recently there's just been a super trendy hater bandwagon though. IT's not necessarily this post but just seeing "i broke my skis on a jump! Bail on Vail!!!" " The lift was supposed to open till 4pm and it was closed at 3:59!?!?!?!?!?! Vail sucks!!!" Etc type posts all over the web.

Some mountains suck, some mountains are awesome, and that's up to debate on which. That said some of the smallest mountains are greedy shitholes and some of the biggest are pretty cool. Then obviously there's your corporate action and your small core family run ski area. There are pros and cons to everything. Some of those people just need to find something else to bitch about.

Heard about this a few weeks back and was heartbroken. Peru is the lot for park skiers and Vail has been trying to push us off of Schoolmarm to keep us in A51 riding Peru chair for a while now. Now that it's pay, obviously us broke park skiers aren't going to park there. It's backwards. They want to keep us in the Park but are making us pay to park our cars. Come on vail

Misspoke on the summit house name in the thread but as you can see in the petition it says mountain house lot. Just trying to get the parking lot back to its original free state. Just edited it, thanks for pointing that out.

No unfortunately. The weather hasn't been cold enough :( . It has to be under 28 degrees F for 90 hours for them to blow snow.

Really really hoping that Vail doesn't implement pay parking at Whistler. If they do that will be the last straw for me. Most of the changes Vail has made at Whistler have made my experience as a normal, non-American tourist negative.

That is pretty sad. I actually think it is worse than paying for parking.

To the OP, I'm sorry about the situation, but that is just the way Vail is. They are a corporation that wants to squeeze every last dollar out of their asset, so they are going to do what they can. I don't have a choice about what pass to buy, I live in socal and hit Mammoth 2-3 weekends a month so I have to be Icon. You might want to look into the Icon pass if it is convenient. Personally, I don't ski park very much so my favorite mountain in the area where you are is Abasin. If you have other options you might want to look into them.

Parking at Mammoth is a nightmare, but for the most part it does not affect me. Mammoth has small lots at Main, Eagle and Canyon, and other than that it is basically park on the street and take the parking shuttle. The good thing is that Mammoth lakes has lots of shuttles to the resort, so I almost never actually drive to the mountain. My condo is on the yellow line, so I just take it to the village or take it to Eagle and it is only about a 5 minute ride. The yellow line closes in mid-April when Eagle closes, but by that point the mountain is much less crowded so parking at Main is not such a big deal. In your case you probably don't have a ski lease, you are probably driving in which makes using a shuttle not an option. I have not been to Summit County in 20 years, so my knowledge is out of date. I had a cousin who lived in Boulder for a long time as a weekend warrior, but he had a ski lease in Breck so he would drive in on Friday night and take the shuttles.
