Anyone into sleds? Going to look at a 2010 Ski-doo Summit Everest 800 P-tec today. Supposivly has 150miles on a new engine. Talked the guy down to $3k which seems like a fairly decent deal. Going to be my first real sled if I pick it up. I had a '95 Skidoo 380 trail sled, Rode it once around the yard and sold it. Anyone have any input? Never been a sled guy, but now living next to the Big Horns in Wyoming whee I could utilize a sled are tempting me to snag one and try it out.
If it's a new engine find out who put it in. Hopefully it was a shop, if so go talk to them. See why the engine was replaced and get a feel for if they are a shop or dealership that would do a good job.
Also, be real thorough about checking the frame and such. 8 year old sled with a new engine probably means he blew the first one up, or put a shit ton of miles on it, which means there might be issues with others things besides the engine. See if you can get the cylinders checked, look at the carbides etc.
Snowmobiles are the coolest. I sold my last one when we had my first daughter.. (2011 Ski Doo 800,) got my eyes on a Polaris rmk patriot 850.. might snowcheck one this spring..
So that Summit 800 was pretty beat. I ended up picking up a '13 Pro RMK 600 that was a Forest Service sled. The Oil Pump failed on it and it blew the motor. Motor was replaced and they sold it to get some newer sleds. Hopefully can get a feel for riding this winter and if I see fit move up to an 800 if I feel the 600 is lacking what I want and hand the 600 over to my fiance. I've heard these 600s can hold their own though so I'm pretty excited.
