for real though, will they at least mark it? id actually be kind of pissed if i hopped on and got bucked cause i didn't know some jerkoff put skate stoppers on a park rail...

Bro... you were right, I guess were just not “street” enough

yo they right mad street cred from 50/50ing a 8 foot long knee height rail at the park with some bumps on it
like those are so close you couldn't even try and boardslide and hop them. Im gonna complain that they aren't paying a mall cop to tackle me while I hit it too

Loon had one for street cred like 6 years ago. Was pretty sick. 30 foot with like 6 or so skate stoppers. I think they gave a 100 bucks to the first person to do a backlip down it. Shit was nutty. They also had sick chain rails and super creative combos.
The difference is that this was a contest. You're checking out said features before the comp, hiking past them in the comp. You know. I feel like this is a mega no go on a regular park feature. I like BB a lot and they have some nice builds. The fact that they aren't painted is a bad move imo. When you show up and think you're sliding a flat/down rail and get raped by these it won't be so chill.
Some people are going to crush it on them. Some skiers will def be able to hit it. It's a cool feature but doesn't belong in a normal park ever imo.
Next up 20 foot gap over pond of dirty needles. Like bro, the commitment it takes.
Some people feel this way about closeouts etc. I do think they have a purpose though, and they're generally easy to see. If it was a gap to downrail with a close out that'd be different.
Idk, creativity is dope, but not killing people is chill as well. For once I actually agree with pretty much everyone in a thread.
grouse had 2 rails w skate stoppers set up last year. pretty fun rails in my opinion. probably would be a good idea for the skate stoppers on the rail in the photo to be painted bright orange or something so u could see that it isn't a normal rail.
I think the biggest issue is that this rail looks like its 15ft long. If it were a 40ft rail with 3 large skate stoppers that would be one thing but i dont think you can do anything cool on this rail even on a snowboard.
Carinthia has one that is a little better, still not super fun but they have thin circular stoppers not what look like 2" long stoppers at BB, plus they painted their stoppers so people are aware it might kill you.
man boreal had a little wall ride with a giant knob right in the middle of the coping on the top. almost fucking killed myself night skiing on that thing.
lol i was there last weekend and saw that and thought wtf. but i guess if you think about it, there were about 85-90% snowboarders there last Saturday and that is definitely a more realistic feature for a snowboarder than a skier

Way less sus
yeah ive hit that one, i didn't love it but it's fine. not as crazy as the OP one, more like a corrugated tube kind of deal
theabortionatorIt's funny that people used to hacksaw the caps on handrails. Now we build donkey dicks, closeouts, and skate stopper rails.
For real and there amazingly there are guys that can hit it all just like people were able to hit those impossible super high rails way back in the day. Although at my hill it's not uncommon for those guys to be pro rail guys that are actually in TC or something. For most that's just not fun though so hopefully people that are putting these super tricky features in are first putting in big flat boxes and big smooth propane tanks and then making flow features entirely out of snow once they have it.
SPK_Probably snowboarders in the park crew who got this idea. No skiers in their right mind would put this up.
Well, you sir are wrong. I work at Carinthia and was with the guys when we thought of doing a skate stopper rail. Although it might not be for everyone, most of the experienced riders love it. if it doesn't appeal to you don't hit it, as simple as that. It just makes an average trick a little better......and it sounds great for filming haha.

Make more hips :)
Mt snow has always had my back by having hips here and there pretty often over the years
Somebody did a front blunt 2 out on a board. They look like they're not to gnar. It's hard without a good picture. The ones at loon were straight savage, these look like they're probably rounded bumps. Still seems like it should be marked in someway.
Also there's a lot of room in how they're built. If you build a rail, it's probably going to slide like any other similar rail. You can judge the difference in angle of kinks etc. If you're welding something to the surface. A skate stopper rail at one mountain might be greasy af, and a similar rail at another mountain straight death.
I guess you just scope it out and judge it, but it's hard to know it's there, if there's nothing telling you about it. I know technically you're supposed to "inspect the features" or "make a plan" or whatever but nobody does a park run skipping every feature to scope it out.
Carinthia had some pretty knobby down rails in prospector that were probably more gnar than some of these rails, but it was an all natural wood park, so you kinda expected it.
Yall are a bunch of nerds. Features don't need to cater to both skiers AND snowboarders. You don't like it, don't hit it. I'd love to see some snowboarders or skiers do some shit on this as part of a line. Yall are always gushing about Bush parks and edits coming out of sugarbush all the time. That place has shit like this everywhere. Little short rails, big ass knobby rails, gian ribbed tubes, massive donkey dicks, tiny little butter boxes, straight of rocks in the middle of the park. There is a reason bush's park is so damn fun and its because not every rail is a 30 foot slopestyle rail catered to skiers.

you're right they were sort of trapezoidal, rounded bumps and didn't look too crazy but you would definitely need to be ready for it. but the only way to know they were there was to inspect the rail by stopping directly next to it and looking very closely (like if you just skied by first run to check out the "down rail" you might not have noticed)

were not saying we want the park to be catered to us... were just trying to see the appeal since skate stoppers like these are installed on handrails to PREVENT grinding...

Because it makes for a more challenging hit and cool shots. It originates from skaters hitting knobbed spots.
