Author, Dan Cody, spent years in the ski industry as an instructor, resort marketer, ski equipment salesperson and hotel manager. He has observed thousands of skiers from his perches in the industry.

Skiers love to give advice, according to Cody, but a lot of what he hears is hype that doesn’t speak to the specific needs of individual skiers. “I take readers on an insider’s tour of the ski industry so they can get the most fun and value from their purchases.”

For example, Cody shows skiers how to choose ski equipment based on their unique skiing style, budget and snow conditions where they ski. There’s a special section for terrain park skiers. Readers can also save hundreds of dollars by becoming more astute shoppers.

Cody also lampoons some common rituals of ski vacations. These include advice for carrying skis without looking like you’re holding a broken helicopter, driving on roads resembling luge tracks, and how to start children skiing. “Skigasm” is an informative and fun read. One chapter is for people who’ve never skied before and want to try the sport. It guides readers step by step through the process of getting to a resort, renting equipment and enjoying their first day on the slopes.

The book is released as the ski industry continues to face headwinds. Skiing participation has leveled off in recent years according to industry reports. The majority of first-time skiers never come back. Cody says that he’s passionate about helping more people enjoy skiing and snowboarding.
