OregonDeadWe should all get regular CBs IMO. Then we can pick an NS safety channel and we can always keep tabs on the yellow jackets and race coaches too.

DominatorJacquesMany years ago I was a CB'er.
I had them in three cars and a base station at home.
I ran all with amplifiers from 250 to 600 watts. Law was 4 watts maximum.
Had a five element beam for one antenna at my house with a 10db gain in the direction pointed.
So in the direction pointed 600 watts would be the equivalent to 6000 watts!
I talked to every country in the world where CB was legal when the skip was rolling.
Those days are long gone for me. I spent thousands of dollars on that hobby.
I modified all my radios to have a bunch of illegal channels and to produce more modulation etc.
OregonDeadI've thought about that before. Seems unlikely they'd catch you exceeding the power limits since you're on a public channel anyways. My dad told me when he was young he used an FM channel a few times one weekend and then Monday on the way home from school he saw some sort of FCC radio van driving around his neighborhood. I guess he got totally freaked and never used FM again.
DominatorJacquesYea, you could get busted back in the day.
It usually took a complaint to the FCC though.
If you were close to other homes with a base station and caused a bunch of RFI you could get busted.
As far as mobile went, it was hard to get busted.
I had an ass wipe of fun with it back in the day. No internet or cell phones yet really (unless you were rich, first cells)
Slowly cell phones kinda killed the CB.
I was in a REACT team and called in many emergency's for highway and other accidents.
One time I met a guy...........found out his wife was in a wreck. We talked about the wreck. It was a wreck I called in.
He said it was a miracle how soon the ambulance got there etc. CB radio was all we had for fast response back then.
Rum_HamI know a lot of 4x4 guys have CBs in their rigs. I went up once with some serious guys back when I had a truck and I was the only one without one which made it kinda tough to communicate.
