I bitched about it on here many years ago because some years breck and keystone and copper literally had enough snow to stay open until june, but the cocksucking powers that be wouldnt let them stay open past april 18. It seemed like a power play made by the owners of vail and aspen and park city and other low elevation resorts because they didnt want their mountain to have a season 2 months shorter than the high altitude resorts of summit. Anybody who thinks a resort that has a huge snow base that doesnt melt until june should have to close completely the same day as lower altitude resorts, because its “fair”, is a collosal piece of shit.

The demand for skiing dies in the late spring so only a couple of mountains need to stay open to keep up with demand. A basin is pretty sweet to have open until june.

I may be wrong but I heard that ski areas that lease national forest land only get a permit to operate on them x days per calendar year, so they divide the time between summer activities and winter activities with their split seasons. A-bay doesn't have any official summer activities so they use it all for the skiing side thats why they can stay open so long without it being private land. I think elk/bear migration comes into play also, thats why Jackson Hole has to close the first week of April when they still have a shitload of snow
