Ski shop messed up on my mount. What should I do?

I’m pretty disappointed. I got my skis mounted a few weeks back now and I just noticed the other day that they totally did the whole mount crooked. The binding on every ski. It’s not centered. And I’m worried it will cause problems, because it’ll put unnecessary stress on certain screws, increasing the likelihood for a stripped hole. And here’s the catch... I don’t even think they’ll be able to re imburse me either cause they’re skis not from the shop. Help me out here...

Take a look at the last couple pics... you can even see that they’re crooked to one direction.

More than likely you're probably going to have to ride them as is. Moving the mount a few MM will only cause more problems. Unless they move the mount a few cm from center to get fresh material to drill into, but those are Vishnu's... I'm guessing they are at center.

go talk to the shop. Be nice, and patient.

I'd be demanding a new pair of skis. That's my worst fear! In all reality though, just be super kind and polite about it, contact them and you should get it resolved.

The skis will be fine, a matter of mm will not cause any significant damage. I doubt you'll ever be able to notice it. Coming from someone who mounts their own skis, Its no big deal, go ski and have fun.

You can be that guy without being a dick. My first year working at a ski shop one of the managers made this mistake, they didn't buy the skis with us but we still gave them a brand new ski. If you remount it and it's less than 2cm from the previous mount then you probably won't notice.

That said, if I were you I would insist on a new ski. Don't insult the employees, don't raise your voice, just plant your feet and don't take no for an answer.

Wow that's so subtle I prob wouldn't notice if mine were off. Good eye. As said earlier, likely won't affect performance, but still it's not difficult to be accurate. In defense of OP, if you're a shop, you'd think they'd be paying extra attention to symmetry. Prob an honest mistake, but def worth going in and talking to them about it. At minimum you should demand a refund for the mount

I already responded to your email but now that I see the pictures it's way less of an issue than i assumed. Just don't worry about it I bet you won't really notice anything is off.

my local ski shop mounted my directional sidecut skis backwards a few years ago, that was a situation where I definitely went in and and was not happy at all, but I just talked to them calmly and politely, they understood and apologized and let me get a pair to replace the ones they messed up. if you do go back just be kind ...

If you notice it at all you'll notice the different toe pieces way more than the mount I'd say

They have different toe elasticities as well. Definitely sketch.

one is a WTR, the other is from a regular PX? I think those have different AFDs, as well as stack heights. sketch. would not mount.

Just talk to the store. Be patient about it, and explain the issue. They should be able to help you unless they're a bunch of douchebags.

Ya, I know. I wasn't serious about his age, I was just talking about how he acts. I'm pretty sure I've said the exact same thing to him before on my old account back in the day. I just don't remember my old username or email because I wasn't skiing for the last five years.

OP, i don't blame you for being put off but ive had a mount that was just like that and i promise you it was 100% fine

also aren't those different toe pieces (like actually, functionally different)? if so i feel like you might be lucky they mounted them at all?

As a former racer(I'm 51 and still go fast), I would notice this. A couple MM off can grow to a centimeter or more at the tip, giving you a different angle and turn initiation. Ski mounts need to be spot on imo.

Yo, everyone: they’re the same toe piece pretty much. One is from a Pivot WTR, and one is just a normal Pivot toe piece. Both have same stack height I’m pretty sure. If I notice anything I will just get the other toe piece and put it on (I tried to mix colors, looks cool.)

but yes he posts some super legit stuff, which makes it a shame that half his posts are some sort of indecipherable hardo ski guy limerick. it's a blast to the past on here when everyone tried to be as vague and condescending as possible in their posts. youre similar, you have tons of knowledge but opt to just post douchey nonsense most of the time. but i guess not everyone can be esteemed NS scholars like me

Yeah the wtr toe peice has a completely different afd as it slides and actually has different retention characteristics due to more elasticity. The toe pieces are functionally different and I wouldn’t mix them.

Fashion over function, should have known.

You aren't going to notice them being offset. If I was in the situation, I would go back to the shop, let them know that maybe their jib needs to be checked so it doesn't happen to anyone else. I wouldn't care. I've also mounted my own skis before and they def were not spot on.

True with racing but with park skiing if it’s shifted sideways instead of forward and backwards then it doesn’t matter too much. Been mounting my own skis for a couple years and have done this myself and they were fine

Last year I asked a shop to mount 2.5cm behind center, but instead they mounted my bindings 2.5 behind the rec line that was already 3cm behind center, and because they were quiver killered, they claimed that the holes would be to big to get them to the exact spot, so they instead did a mount at 1cm behind center that shared 2 mount holes. Not that frustrated cause they gave me 2 free mount points on my jj's that I guess I can use for different purposes, and I can tolerate a near centered ski for touring because personally it's worth it for the jibby ski on the way down.

I'd probably be pretty pissed if I got diagonally or unevenly mounted bindinngs. If I was mounting bindings for personal use, I wouldn't really care but if I paid for a mount from a shop, I'd expect them to use the shop specific jigs more accurately than a piece of lexan that I drilled holes in to match some mount holes. Mounting bindings yourself isn't that difficult, but when you're paying someone to do it, there is an expectation that it will be done properly.

Got it all resolved today peeps. Heli coils in two holes that were stripped, got refunded. Manager was very nice about it. Thx every1 for your help. Skied today too! November 10th, cheers to FDOS.
