Xgames this year

You could check places near Aspen. Unfortunately there isn't a ton of options. Glenwood Springs or Basalt, check Air bnb. On some ski trips iv'e used the App couch surfer. That's more for a solo traveler, good luck man! Winter X is always a good time!

The busses run up to glenwood springs. As mentioned above look in some other places. Or if somebody can stay sober that can make it easier as the busses will be a shit show when the events let out.

Check on air bnb. Also just found a place for $432 a night in Snowmasss. Might not be a bad place if you're gonna ski. Aspen will be more bumpin than snowmass but idk what you'll find there on the cheap. Also traffic will be a fucking nightmare to get there for a while.
Saw a few for $502-550 in Aspen. PErsonally if I was going with enough friends it might be worth it to just stay in aspen or snowmass for the extra $$$. Unless somebody is staying sober because that could be a long drive to cheaper housing at the end of the night.

Also don't book hotels near Crested Butte even though they might be cheap and "less than 20 miles away". You're going to have a bad night.

Aspen Xgames is a time. If you can take off a week day or two, I highly recommend driving up on a Wednesday or Thursday night. Traffic on Friday and through the weekend is miserable. Then park your car and leave it until you need to drive back home.

Take the bus everywhere. It’s really convenient and free. The last two years I’ve stayed in downtown aspen, a few blocks from the gondola, and spent about $1200-3000 but splitting that between 4-5 friends dropped our per night down to $150-200 depending on the place. Expensive but the closeness to everything is worth it so you don’t have to deal with the bus every single time you want to venture out. It’s walkable to food, slopes, bars, etc. Get on Airbnb like now, don’t wait until mid November.

Yeah im thinking of doing a lodging situation like that. So i have the Ikon this year and go to CU so ill just driving up Thursday for the weekend probably. My pass goes to snowmass but not buttermilk, is that a big deal or will i still be able to ski a bunch in the morning and than go see the events? What time do the events normally start/end?

Most of the big events you want to see such as big air/ halfpipe are all at night, plus the skiing at snowmass is far superior to buttermilk. Watching Slopestyle at the base of buttermilk really isn't that fun, its essentially watching the run on TV except for the money booter. For big-air the view on the right deck of the half pipe is way better than the base as well. Ski all day at snowmass/highlands/ Ajax and go to the night events.

I mean you can still ride most of buttermilk while the events are going on, and it's not always crowded even during X. But snowmass is better terrain. Also Snowmasses bigger jump line and pipe will be open through X.

Can you ride highlands or Ajax on your pass? Both those mountains are a cool experience imo and have some sick terrain *no park though)

I like buttermilk but I don't think you'd be missing too much if you didn't ride much. If you can ride for free you might as well take a few laps. During the practice days some of the pros are taking the main life(there's no lift for just the slope course) so you'll be cruising through the park and the pros will be mobbin through as well. But once the event starts they all get snowmobiled up.

Also the parks at buttermilk went downhill the last 10 years. Snowmass has been building way better stuff even though there both part of the same resort family.

Thursday and Friday events start around noon or just after I think. Usually slopestyle qualifying and then the other slope comps run around that time.

Big air and pipe are usually at night starting like 5-8 maybe. After that they have concerts in the base area. The concerts sell out pretty early so if you want to catch any music it's worth it to buy tickets early.

We did a place in Snowmass last year and it was like $300 per person for the weekend (but we had like 10 people in a fairly large condo). The bus system is great there so you could ski Snowmass in the morning then bus to the events/shows at night. Total time to bus from snowmass to the events takes like 20 minutes so it isn't too bad. Looks like you have some options on VRBO and airbnb that are near your price range too

You can always find some really cheap inns and motels around the area (not necessarily in Aspen, but in small towns around the area) by using AirBnB. You can also camp, or sleep in your car. Or rent out a van or borrow a friends and just sleep in the van. Go full hippie style.

I knew some guys back in the day that used to drive up to the X-Games with absolutely no plans but would bring a keg of high quality beer. They would drive around and offer to bring the keg to anyone who would let them crash at their place. As far as I know, the plan never failed.

Personally, the X-Games is the best time to ski because everyone is watching the show and the resorts are pretty empty that weekend.

This part is true. Ajax/Aspen mtn is completely yours, the slopes stay very empty during xgames.

I'm going with a group of 16 this year and we have to stay at an airb&b in glenwood, gonna suck shuttling all the way from out there but it's cheap and is what it is... also if you planning on going to the concerts at all hmu, got some discounted friends/fam tickets I gotta sell

I wish more places had the space and time to host it. I'd love to see Xgames move to another mountain. Even for a few years. The way Summer x bounces around.

Just so you know, there is no such thing as a Snowmass only or any mtn specific ticket in Aspen/Snowmass. If you have one ticket to any of the mountains, you could ski all 4 mountains in one day if you wanted to. I wouldn't recommend it, though. Snowmass is a fucking awesome mountain and has everything from world class park to world class steeps. It's an easy free bus ride from there to the X Games. However, the buses are insanely busy that weekend, but they always hire extra buses to transport people to/from the games.

Look into the Holiday Inn Express (AKA The Wildwood) in Snowmass. They have the most reasonable rates in the Aspen region, but it sells out quickly for the X Games.

X Games is such a shit show for us locals. I don't' even leave my house that weekend anymore haha. The skiing is great that week, though. There's usually a nice storm that rolls through and everybody is here to watch skiing instead of actually ski, so you get the whole mountain to yourself. It'll be interesting to see how/if the Ikon pass changes that this year.
