Ditching digital for film.

I think great idea. While I shoot digital and film, I’m always more stoked on my film photos. Personally I’d never give up my digital cam for video purposes but I’d say if video isn’t one of your priorities than go for it

CabbyArrantI got an a7 III over the summer and while it's an awesome camera I feel like I can't have that expensive of equipment and not do paid work. Problem is the paid work I've been doing is slowly making me hate taking photos. I still love shooting film and I am thinking about selling off my digital stuff, shooting all film and using the money from my Sony equipment to travel more and learn to love photography again. What do you think NS? Good idea,bad idea?

Film isn't all that cheap either (some film setups are crazy expensive), but if you want to sell to travel and experience the world more and you think shooting film will get you to love photography again then by all means go for it. If you don't care about paid work anymore, you can really just shoot whatever you want - doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks.

Sony A7 III is a sweet rig, but yeah if traveling and switching to film would make you love photography again, do it

I don't think your format should affect whether or not you love photography. If you do, you do. You could turn off auto-review and limit yourself to 24 pictures per session without getting rid of a very versatile camera. Pitch projects to clients you want if you hate your paid work now. I just don't see a 35mm camera teaching you how to 'love photography again.' Do your thing, but if you hate photography on an a7iii you'll probably hate it just as much on 35.

I highly recommend switching to film-only shooting regimen.

I use my DSLR for video and for film-scanning still, but otherwise, I'm 100% shooting just film these days, and it excites me to actually go out and shoot. I take better photos than I used to, and I am more likely to take my cameras with me. I'm much faster, and I almost never have to make edits. If I make a mistake, I know it's my fault and I learn from it, rather than just editing something in post. Also, I can use a plethora of different film cameras to get the job. rangefinders, SLR's point and shoot cameras with surprisingly great lenses.. it's awesome.

Sell the A7, buy a bunch of film, all the developing gear you need, and maybe a cheap digital camera for the times where you want that instant satisfaction. boom. You're set. If you start getting paid work again, buy an A7 at that time
