Side Country Precautions

If I’m hitting some side country like Cody Bowl at Jhole and I’m with a group of four guys do we all need beacons and probes? Or does one guy in a group suffice?

For real though I say either do the whole protocol or leave all the avy gear in the car if it's that kind of mellow/ spring day.

Actually you should just continue the process of getting educated. Any danger doesn’t care if you are inbounds or if you are doing another activity where you don’t even have your ski gear. You can’t spend your whole life inbounds.

Yes. You can spend your whole life inbounds. Especially when we're talking about Village side country which takes a remarkable number of lives every year. It's not a bad idea actually. There is no situation, no spring day, no anything when it would be appropriate to leave the gates at the Village without everyone in your group having gear and knowing how to use it.

Yo ,I know nothing about Jackson and I'm sure you are right about that particular spot.

My whole point is Avy class is really not that much $ in the whole scheme of thing and it can even help you make a better decision about where to go pee on the side of the road.

Thanks for the advice guys. I will stick for inbounds terrain though. I’m 40 with two little kids I won’t be hiking any time soon, but when they get older we will take the class and get familiar.

Right on everyone. Every year skiers die around jhmr when they don’t receive or heed this type of advice. Hope you have a fun safe snowy trip OP
