Don't waste your time ever trying to make metal rails because it's $$$ and pointless. Pvc is the way. the thicker the tube the better. sometimes you can get those big green PVC tubes from construction sites.

PVC everything, I made a pretty decent looking box with sheets of HDPE but in the end it would have made more financial sense just to line up some PVC pipes side by side to make a box. I'd say best bet if you're short on tools is to find one of those big 1' diameter thick-walled PVC pipes and just pack some snow around the sides.

get the thickest PVC pipe you can at least 10ft long then make a latter out of 2x4s with some supports to keep it upright and screw the pipe on top.

2x4s are cheap. Overbuild because why not. Even if it's just a pvc rail in your backyard it's nice when it holes up and doesn't get all wobbly or sag in the middle. Some cross bracing goes a long way. Also throwing some wide feet on it can be helpful to keep it from rocking or flipping if you're spinning on/off. You can go wide as fuck on the first foot because you'll be jumping over it.

Some scrap carpet can be nice to keep things sliding nice without too much snow.

If you can buy a cheap miter saw that's always a plus. Then just buy a bunch of 2x4s and pvc tubes and see what happens.

Some good threads in there and I think TC had a thread in the main forums about how to build a backyard rail. Not sure what it was called though.

PVC and 2x4s my guy. Built the one on the left in like 2hrs with 2 12'x2" pvc pipes, and 2 12' 2x4s. Works great. I do need to reinforce it a little bit, gapped pretty big on, and snapped the 2x4. Verticle braces are 1', and horizontal ones are 2'.
