lipslides

i have a question on what a lip slide it....i will give you examples....and you tell me if their right or wrong, cause i want to know. and for each one tell me if it is unnatural lipslide or natural.

if the jump is on the right on the rail and you slide right foot foward.....is it a lipslide..

if the jump is on the right on the rail and you grind left foot foward.....is it a lipslide..

if the jump is on the left of the rail and you grind left foot foward......is it a lipslide..

if the jump is on the left of the rail and you grind right foot foward....is it a lipslide..

if the jump is in the center of the rail...can you do a lipslide??

#2 and #4 are lipslides.
and you can't do a lipslide if you're perfectly aligned with the rail.

they're when you get onto the rail with you back facing it. then you just do a normal grind. it's not how you grind the rail it's how you get onto the rail.

I could be way off - but I alwys thought a lip slide was when you hit the rail coming from the side, and balance on the edge of the rail while sliding it... so that you don't go all the way up on top of it. so yea it is kinda hard to do that from straight on... but I could be terribly wrong on this one - but that is what I have always called them.

wouldnt a lipslide be done by flipping upside down and sliding with your lips on the rail, in a kissing position? thats kinda how it seems to me.

It's like you jump over the rail and grind

like you said, ie. jump on left of rail, jump over and grind w/ right foot in front.

OK A LIP SLIDE IS WHEN U 90 OVER THE RAIL AND LAND ON IT AND SLIDE ACROSS OR DOWN THE RAIL.
EXAMPLE IF I WERE HITTING A RAIL WITH A JUMP THAT USUALLY PPL ONLY HIT WHEN THEY HAVE THERE LEFT FOOT FORWARD I BECAUSE I GO DOWN RAILS WITH MY RIGHT FOOT FORWARD WOULD 90 OVER THE TOP OF THE RAIL SO I WOULD LAND WITH MY RIGHT FOOT FORWARD.GET IT???????????????

If the jump is to the side of a rail, call it a frontside or a backside. Not a lipslide, we are not on a skateboard or a snowboard.

a lipslide comes from skateboarding and it is when intead of olliing(sp) and put your front truck over like a boardslide(even you rollerbladers should know what a boardslide is)you ollie and put your back truck over the rail. It is the same way with skiing. If you throw your tails over the rail intead of your tips it is a lipslide.

yea people get confused...they think a lipslide just means that you slide the side of the rail. this is because when you come into the rail at the angle you need to lipslide you tend to slide the side of the rail.

smuggs had it right it just means you come in from the side and have to get your tails over the rail as opposed to your tips. By definition the skier has to ollie onto the rail from beside it (not in front!) and lift their tails over the rail to get on.

technically you can do it if the jump is in the center of the rail. you just come up the side of the jump. but that is cheap and gay. i cnat believe how many people dont know what a lipslide is.

now when you spin from a jump on the side i think it is the way you first turn over the rail. jump is on the left side, you spin to the left. tails over first and then complete the 270. Im pretty sure thats how it works when spinning. most skaters and boarders ive talked to have no idea when you spin on.

^ no it isnt. he went straight at it and just slid it. lipslides are generally when its an ollie on rail. if you grind right foot forward gettin on from the right side of the rail will feel the most natrual because you jump toi the left onto the rail and turn 90 to the left. a lipslide is when you jump on from the left side of the rail. to do this you jump to the right but still turn 90 to the left. sometimes you grind the side but its how you get on that defines it. the first guy had it right.

a lipslide= when you jump on from the side and you have to bring your tails over first. its very obvious and easy to tell the difference if you see one in action

another way to think of it is you spin your 90 ( or possibly 270) AWAY from the rail
