I have a Panasonic G7. I'm looking at the Rode VieoMic Pro, but want to know if I'll get good or garbage results when plugging it in directly to the camera vs. an external recorder. Really don't want to use an external recorder due to the annoying setup. Thoughts?
If you really want quality audio you'd be best getting a tascam recorder/mixer and some sort of XLR microphone. however thats when it starts getting expensive.
There wouldn't be a point in getting a separate mixer or recorder for a videomic pro. If you're just filming skiing then a VMP is good enough/ perfect
Will you be recording in a studio setting? If yes, I'd highly recommend getting a USB sound card to go along with an Audio Technica AT2020 - Sounds brilliant at the price.
