AscentShell vs Gore-Tex Pro in Whistler/PNW

I live in WA and will primarily be skiing at Whistler/Stevens Pass this season. I was originally looking for a Gore-Tex pant/jacket setup but found that I really liked OR's Skyward II pants, which use AscentShell. I know that theoretically Gore-Tex is more bombproof while AscentShell is more breathable. But will AscentShell be sufficient for wet/warm storms? New to the PNW and these are an investment piece for me so I want to make sure they'll keep me dry. Thanks!

Gore-tex will be superior for wet precipitation. I will always choose a 3L hard shell that my be a little less breathable in favor of water proofing fro riding lifts.

Thanks, I understand that, but will it be *generally* sufficient for PNW storms? Expecting to use for 80% inbounds, 20% backcountry, if relevant, so I do appreciate the increased breath ability. Just wondering if it will keep me dry during storms most of the time, or if it’s just a bad idea for PNW

Nothing beats Gore-tex. Period.
Alot of companies have similar products, but none of them are goretex.
If your looking for an investment piece, get goretex. Any Jacket will keep you dry to start, but its the long term your looking for. Breathability doesnt mean anything if your wet.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. I will return to my search for slim fit 3L Gore-Tex shells in the ~$300 range. Suggestions are welcome.
Concurring or opposing opinions still welcome.

Fwiw Ive got a strafe momad jacket that uses 3L event fabric and i had no issues whatsoever last season at alpental/summit. Everything just beaded right off and waterproofing seemed to be just as good after 30 days as day 1. No issues with breathability either. The fabric did feel slightly stiffer and heavier than other 3L gore tex ive fondled, if that matters to you.

Thanks, I’ll check it out. My struggle is that I’m pretty skinny so most ski outerwear looks like a balloon on me. Hard to find a 3L GTX shell in the right fit and price range. Good to know you didn’t have issues with eVent
