However, Tanner is a pretty chill guy. I met him at the Kelowna airport a few years back. Got to chat with him for a few minutes about skiing and his upcoming plans. I even got a picture of him, he was cool about it too.

I look at it as living my retirement in my twenties. I'll probably have to work until I'm like 80 but I'd rather do that than waste my youth in an office. What's the real advantage of working hard anyways? I still ski more than the young 9-5ers. Best case scenario, they work 9-5 every day, live frugally, save as much as they can, and then maybe they can retire by 55. And what can you even do at 55? You're not going to be able to huck shit and skull beers all day. Maybe I'm just an idiot but I prefer my lifestyle to one that would give me financial security.

I used to think like that, thats exactly what I wanted to do after college. I just realized that there has to be more to life then just skiing and partying, it feels like i'm missing out on something not doing anything.
i don't think the request was the worst thing ever lol (just silly and ill-advised) but the fact that he sent it at like midnight is hysterical to me
real talk though, if you have family that looks up to people like tanner i don't blame you for not loving his behavior. but tanner is tanner...you just gotta drill it into the kids' heads that tanner should be looked up to for his insane skill and passion for skiing but he's the last person you should be emulating in terms of day-to-day life haha

Idk how this thread moved from THall to ragging on 9-5 jobs but I love it. My wife’s dad has said “he retired young” and will likely work til he dies (respek). well, at age 62 he has metastatic stage IV cancer (his party days could have contributed but who knows). There’s no guarantee that we’ll ever reach retirement age especially when the average retirement age is increasing while life expectancy is actually dropping if anything.
I’d rather ski by myself on weekdays than sit in the car for 6 hours on I70 with my weekend warrior friends to stand in 30 minute lines and ski tracked out snow.
there’s plenty of careers out there that are not M-F 9-5 and I highly suggest finding one. I’ve lived in SLC and Denver having a career avoiding the 9-5. Maybe when you have kids someday the 9-5 may become optimal, but fucking live. Glad to sed you all on the right track
