Canon EOS R

What are your thoughts on the new Canon R? I'm still shooting on the Lumix GH5, don't think I will make the switch. Curious to know if any of you played around with one up yet? They're late to the game, but it's nice to see Canon finally coming out with an affordable full frame mirrorless camera that shoots 4k.

Got to play with one for a day. It is quite simply, incredible. A lot of famous Youtubers are actually switching to this camera and it's easy to see why. I think the video quality compared to the GH5 is slightly less desirable, but the user friendliness and quality for both video and photography could only be rivaled by the A7sii.

I agree its nice that they're finally coming out with something to compete with sony and panasonic. I've seen lots of mixed reviews, but I think we can only assume things will get better from here!
Also the customizable ring on the lens is really neat idea. I'm a good fan of canon's colour science/skin tones but I'm still looking at switching to an a7sii once they announce/ release the a7siii

For video it's probably not worth it, 4k30 and 1080p60 is pretty weak for $2300.

Apparently the video is pretty disappointing for a brand new camera in that price range.

Especially considering you can get a GH5 now for pretty much half the price (which has 4k60, IBIS, etc), there really doesn't seem to be any reason to buy the R for video.

for video this is a super weak attempt from Canon to catch-up, yet they are still behind, Nikons mirrorless aren't looking great for video either. They've had years and years to put out mirrorless competition and they blew it IMO. A GH5 kicks any Nikon/Canon mirrorless currently for a fraction of the price
