Out of no where. Did anyone expect this or see Oakley’s reasoning behind this?

aidansheahanAll big brands are doing this with Freeskiers lmao...
BASEDJAHwhich is why we need more rider-owned brands that actually represent the community.
If you care about skiers like Tanner, don't support big brands.
twatt_chaurusSmall brands cut skiers off all the time. Either because they want the brand to stay alive, or because they no longer have any money.
Also, dude has been receiving dough and support for 20 years from them, did he expect it to last forever? Or did he want a gift basket? Do REAL SKIING brands support their athletes even in the nursing home?
BASEDJAHThe difference between small brands and brands like Oakley is that freeskiing could cease to exist tomorrow and Oakley would be absolutely fine. The same is not true for Vishnu, on3p, or even slightly larger brands like full tilt, line, and armada. That's why Oakley can cut a dude like tanner with basically no financial repercussions. Smaller brands cut people too, but they don't cut legends who are right in the middle of a comeback because it would be disastrous for them.
As for supporting athletes into the nursing home, Eric Pollard doesn't really ski anymore due to injuries. Line is still supporting him because they know he's and integral part of their brand and image. Judging by people's reaction to Oakley dropping tanner, a lot of people felt the same way about that relationship. But since freeskiing is probably such a small percentage of their profits, they can just drop a guy after 20 years and just say "whatever."
mattm7Eric has the ep collection though and didn't he help design the pescado and Sakanas, its not like he doesn't help the company. I think it's a different situation than being sponsored

BASEDJAHGood point. It's hard to think of a skier who has been sponsored into their later years because the sport has only been around for 20 years. The only skiers who have been around for that long and are still shredding and perusing a skiing career are tanner and candide, and candide has switched sponsors like a billion times.
Idk. I still think that Oakley cutting tanner demonstrated how little they care about the freeskiing community, similar to how aurage cut bdog and the rest of their team a few years ago.
fghtoffyrdmnseric is a different animal entirely. eric basically invented the twintip powder ski, and contributes to line on a different level than sponsored athletes. eric helped design ALL of his pro model skis (pescade, sakanas, sir francis bacon, lizzie, opus, ep pro, etc) argueing he's "heading to the nursing home" is also fucking dumb, (and ik the person im directly responding to didnt say that). Eric CAN still ski, it's just painful for him because the doctor who operated on his leg/ankle in russia fucked his shit up. He can still ski at a VERY solid level, and understands skiing more than most. EP is in his fucking 30s, he's not an old man.

SFBv420.0so wouldnt the ccrew solider taking everything he posted here and telling this community to fuck off he wasnt gonna be a part of it any more
show how little he cared about this place and the fanboi freeskiing community?
im gonna ski regardless of who gets paid
fghtoffyrdmnshttps://www.orage.com/us/team/brooke-potter I still think it's hilarious how orage dropped BDOG and kept this chick on the team

DrZoidbergIs that what happened? I always just though Nimbus kinda dissolved and everybody kinda just skis on their own now. Side note, I just bought SFBs too.
BASEDJAHI'm pretty sure his calf muscle literally burst out of his leg cause the doctors were terrible. Don't get hurt in Russia

BASEDJAHquote from EP:
I ended up suffering from compartment syndrome, although the doctors in Russia actually refused to believe it. Essentially my muscles just swelled in my leg so much that—unless surgeons opened the compartments—there was nowhere for them to go. One by one my muscles and nerves were starved of blood supply. I had eight surgeries in Germany from February through March, plus three more surgeries in the U.S. from March through April. The first surgery was to put a titanium rod into my tibia, the next two were fascia procedures and a few more were to remove damaged tissue.
I also had a skin graft, but not before a doctor attempted to close the wound in my leg each day. I had staples on the border of my wound, and rubber tubing laced through the staples. My leg looked like a shoe. The doctor would come in each day and tighten the laces to close the wound as much as possible. There were a lot of things like that procedure that I endured that were not surgeries, so although I had 11 surgeries in total, I feel like I had 30.

ScaredwhiteboyUnprofessional response from Tanner. He probably would have had a chance to pick up a different sponsor to replace Oakley if not for this outburst. If you're a company you can't hire a guy who shit-talks his former employers like this because what's he going to say about you when it's time for you to cut him?
