East Coast Resort Recommendations

Title says it all. I'm looking for some killer east coast resorts that have lots of glades to ski preferably somewhere i haven't been to. I live in central PA so recommend me something within 8ish hours drive.

Been to these resorts numerous times so looking for something new:
Killington
Mountsnow
Stratton

Probably more than an 8hr drive from you, but Jay Peak has hands down the best, and most fun glades & woods I've ever ridden in my life. Highly recommended

Magic Mtn is in the area of the ones you listed and is really well liked and low key

Gore in Upstate NY is really sick. Generally decent snow conditions and some really good trees. The park is cancer though so don't go there if you want to ride more than 3 park laps. Also the steeper terrain at the top has it's own lift so you can hot lap straight vert for a while and skip the lines at the base area even on a busy weekend.

The mgmt blows, the marketing blows, the park blows, but the mountain is pretty decent.

agree w the dude above gore is pretty sweet as a mountain. some hidden spots and sweet vert. whiteface (iceface) kickass if there is snow and lots of cool history. sunday river and sugarloaf in ME. id stay away from mt snow went there last year when they got 8+ inches of snow conditions were great just not a fan of the mountain or terrain

Yup agree with this too. Worth the extra drive. Check out their trail map. Literally everything in between normal trails is glades.

I live in the same area and if we are willing to go to Canada I HIGHLY recommend Tremblant or Mont Saint Anne. Crazy good resorts. if you don't want to or can't go to canada go ahead to Jay Peak which has pretty good prices and some nice trees and cliffs to jump. Also for park I would go to places like Big Boulder is crazy fun. Feel free to ask me stuff

My brother went to Tremblant last year with some friends and had an amazing time. Oh yeah, Big Boulder has hands down the best park in PA. Fun resort for sure. My favorites in PA are Montage, Blue, and Elk.

Grew up skiing at Gore. the park is rough, but it def has a shit ton to offer outside the park. It's also, usually, not all that busy. Just take the AEII lift to skip the gondola line and then navigate your way from there. That's the best way to get the most runs in, in my experience. Check out burnt ridge if you end up there as well, some good tree lines that way.

those three are good choices. Stratton is relatively "flat" in the woods but is generally open enough for some good flow. Same with Mt Snow. Killington has a mix of tight woods and open depending on the difficulty. Gore is densely packed woods, tech, rocky, and steeper than youd expect. Jay is by far the further drive but definitely worth the trip. Stowe has a ton of woods too and if you are ambitious you can hike to some pretty gnarly stuff.

lol not really but there are a lot o good woods if youve been skiing there a while. but that gondola lift line on a holiday.. dear god.. we dont need anymore people frequenting gore.

I do dig the lack of crowds on some of the terrain though. Also remember plenty of brutally cold days on the triple because the gondola line was out of control.

Has there park gotten any better? It's been a while for me. I think I went one of the first weeks 2 years. I'd say lies with decent snow groomed down well around 10 am on a feb morning is my favorite trail there. Just as the snow starts to peal.

I remember when dudes from whiteface offered to come help build the park and Jason pretty much told them to fuck off, he knew everything.

I'm curious on why ya say tremblant has AIDS. If you mean all the gapers and shit, yeah that's a good point but you can avoid it by going on less crowded days and riding trees and shit.

I grew up skiing at Gore Mountain in NY as a kid and there's a lot of trees and steeps there as well. Definitely go around late February because at that point in the season, the snow cover in the woods should be good enough to ski through and not get core shots in the bases. I can't really add more because TheAbortionator summed it up to a fucking T.


Whiteface is pretty gnarly too, but there's not as much trees and steeps as Gore. Usually around the middle of the season there's enough coverage for patrol to open up The Slides but you gotta get at it early because shit gets scraped off all the trails early in the day. The trees are still fun, but they're mostly untouched by the amount of Jerrys that lap the Gondola and the Face chair (and there's some beautiful places to smoke in the glades, too, if you're into that).

Don't go Presidents week in February because the entire mountain is a fucking zoo (last year the line for the Face chair ran all the way to the bottom of the Brookside park at the base lodge when I showed up hungover from the night before). Other than that, they usually have the glades and the summit open super late into the season, which gives everyone more room to party when the snow starts slowly melting.

agree with this 100% went to gore one time in the spring, great mountain as far as slopes go, but as far as a park DONT BOTHER, i have seen hundreds of posting saying its ass in the normal season, and on this fine spring day i got my ticket clipped for hitting a side hit :)

Mid week powder days at jay used to be the absolute best before the place blew up. Still would fully say jay has some excellent glade skiing. Most mountains have few glades or like Stowe are poorly marked, jays are very obvious and you can ski woods that are not listed as well. All that said JAY PEAK is a must ski east coast spot and in dead winter chances are you'll be skiing some powder.
