JT9DYes I have tried multiple times and spent too much money. For me it was very hard to set up and get the pressure washer/air pressure mix correct or else the water goes into the compressor. I found that an external mix snowmaker omits these problems. I found myself spending around $50 on parts which are all 1/4" galvanized steel, plus the nozzles. In my experience it was not really worth it but I had a great time and it got me stoked for the winter.
finderdid you run the compressor before slowly turning on water? A friend of mine made one by routing air directly toward the nozzle, and water coming in at a 45º angle. Also make sure gravity is working against excess water from going into the air hose. Maybe one way valves would help too?
AbiHSo how much do you guys think it is to build? I didn’t realize this was an option!!!!!
JT9DI spent $50 on mine but i really varies based on your design, got my basic design from SnowAtHome
theabortionatorJust buy ice in bulk, or find a restaurant with an ice machine. If your freezer does ice run that bitch till she drops. Crush up said ice, even in a garbage can and spread it around. If it's still kind of warm you can salt it to firm it up a bit.
DIY snowguns are cool as fuck though. If you have some of the elements needed, or the $, and some time on your hands go for it. It generally seems like more hassle than it's worth although I'm sure the satisfaction of riding even a little bit of snow your ghetto snowgun put out is probably high.
I remember reading some good tutorials a decade or so ago but never ended up building one and not sure where I was reading. If you build one post it up whether it works or totally fails.
