Early year skiing New Mexico

Heading out to Albq. NM Nov 22nd just curious if you guys know if any resorts out there will be open or even have a shot of opening that early ive seen most are mid December. (i know its early im just tryna get some laps in)

Pajarito is still pushing their mountain biking hard last time I checked on IG. Highly doubt they will be open for skiing that early. Santa Fe and Taos are most likely the same story and further from ABQ.

Drive a 4 hours to Wolf Creek. Supposed to be open 11/2 tentatively

FYI I just saw Taos is opening Nov 22 depending on conditions. May be worth the drive if it’s really open.

Ski Santa Fe tentatively opens Nov 22 also and is probably the closest thing to ABQ if Pajarito isn’t open yet.

either that or del norte or south fork. 4 hours is a doable day trip though depending how fast you drive

I’d be coming from AZ not ABQ though so wondering where the lodging is so I could map it out. It’s like an 8 hour drive from me.

Worth it for a long weekend?

If you need to make plans, Wolf Creek is your best bet. NM snow conditions are unpredictable so it's hard to plan ahead for early season. We used to build small jumps at the Rock Quarry on Sandia early season if that is something you are in to.

Somewhere around three hours I would say. Was there in early Jan last year, all manmade snow but still a blast

Red River has a small park- I wanna say they open the day before thanksgiving.... if this season was like the last you’ll need to find a place with good snowmaking capabilities..:/ Wolf creek is pretty sucky if it’s all just man made snow... it’s a tid bit better when there is pow but still pretty flAt....

I have such a hard time thinking new Mexico has mountains. Same with Arizona. Idk I just think about those states and see flat desert. Dont bitch at me new Mexico folks I know you have taos and some awesome mountains.

Some of my favorite memories are from skiing NM. So many hidden gems.

Snow Bowl in AZ is 11,500 ft of serious fun if it’s actually open and has snow. 3 terrain parks that are well maintained, a bowl that is gnarly and plenty of steep vertical lined with big pine trees for the off piste back country feel. And it’s inexpensive with a small business feel compared to the mega resorts even though the mountain is necessarily small.
