Yo, so I moved to NYC from New Zealand mid way this year but want to go skiing / possibly live and work at a mountain this season (I have a working visa). What would be the most desirable location? Would it be best to fly out to somewhere like Breck or keep it more local? Living expenses, job availability, night life, etc come into consideration. Cheers team!
Depends on how serious you are about where you want to ski.
If you want to live/work at a mountain and have the flexibility, avoid the East Coast - You have traveled a long way and might as well take advantage of what we have here in the US.
I would say move and work at a marquee mountain for the experience: Jackson, Squaw, Snowbird/Alta.
Moving up to Bozeman, MT and working at Bridger would also be fun.
If you just want to ski park and party, yea go to Colorado.
If you just want to party, stay in NYC.
I lived in NYC and now live out West. Skied a lot at Jay, Killington, Mt. Snow, Stratton, Hunter, Magic, Sunday River, ETC.
Come 2 cali my man. Pretty sure kirkwood still has some positions open. Live in south lake which is a dank little spot and ski all winter. The party scene might not be off the chain like in colarado but the nightlife is good and it's just an overall rad spot.
I'd recommend Mammoth, especially if you're into park skiing. Good weather and lots of snow. There is a lot of really fun inbounds terrain there too. Also Mount Baker is pretty special-great terrain and lots of snow. You're 3-4 hours from Whistler there too.
The East coast is fun too, but if you're in the Rockies, Sierras or Cascades you'll have bigger mountains, more snow, and generally better weather.
