rubbutterI have a chance to go ski in France in April if anyone who's skied there that time of year could let me know how good conditions are that time of year. Already been to Chamonix multiple times but never skied so the experience of France is not the main concern. THX
Skied there in April the last two seasons, it's awesome. all the different ski areas are seperate so between 5-20 mins drive from eachother. for big terrain you want to hit up the Grand Montets area, also that's where snow tends to last the longest. there's only like 3 actual pistes up there but as long as there's snow and you keep an eye out for rocks you can pretty much ski anything and everything in between all of it, plenty of lips and drops to find- it is glacier territory though so get a guide if you want to find good spots out of bounds and not fall down a crevasse. Even got a few solid late season pow days in last season around early April. Further down the valley there's two other areas joined by a cable car called Brevent and Flegere. the snow tends to go faster there but if there's any left you'll find more cruisey terrain over there but it's still good fun for getting quick laps in.
In any case, you'll definitely have a good time. (don't expect to find any parks though)
