Wooden rails and boxes

As the winter season is upon us (not really...) and i am broke as i spent it all on gear, i been thinking is there a cheper way to your homemade boxes. Basicalyy just a smooth and strong wooden plank with allot off wax. Anyone ever done it?

at this point youre better off sliding some small rails with sanded down old shoes

Theres a hill near me that has a "woods" park where all the features are made out of bent trees and logs and shit. they pretty much just sand the fuck out of trees and throw some wax on them. Its a little sketchy but it slides lol

Sure. I have jibbed a fallen tree. Its really sketchy until you get most of the bark off

PVC is your friend. I used to have a boc made with 6 1.5in pvc tubes and it was decent... Why not just find a fat pvc tube and bolt it to some 2x4's?

It's not worth it. That being said, the wooden rails at Killington are pretty fun to slide but I wouldn't want one in my yard

It should be easy to find some pvc to make a rail. Sliding wood usually works fine, but when you do dig in, it's game over. If you have skis without edges it will be much less of a heat show for sure. Use a hardwood tree like maple or birch and get the bark off. Hardwood is, well, harder and also has fewer knots so it will make a smoother jib. You can always make a different feature from a rail too for that matter. If it's above freezing wood gets way sketchier too so be mindful of the temp. The colder the better for wood jibs.

me and a homie went up to a construction site and went home with a 5 meter pvc tube and some 2x4 planks for free. the guys working there were really cool with it, because ut was going to get thrown away either way.

Really? Last time I bought a 12 foot piece of 4" diameter PVC it was under $20 CDN. It was a long time ago though, maybe it was damaged or something.

I stole like 5 12ft pic pipes from a construction site over a week but when I went again to take more I got busted by an undercover cop who let me go. Still got the pvc

My resort put up a few fallen logs, and even with them being waxed and sanded, I caught an edge and got mekafucked the first few goes. Almost as bad as sliding a child’s mini slide

yeah OP i love the idea but wood rails are pretty freakin gnarly honestly. wood features are literally the only rails i even think twice about before hitting, it's a different ball game than pretty much any other rail feature a park will throw at you

IMO you're better off finding some PVC rails. i def don't suggest stealing them from construction sites because it's a dick move and you could get in trouble. but if you can acquire some legally that's your best bet i say

I hit a wooden rainbow rail, i.e. a curved branch once and I stuck immediately and went flying. I'll never try any sideways ski grinds on a wooden object again. Maybe like riding on a tree or 50-50s if people still actually call them that but never any perpendicular type grinds.

Carinthia has some skier friendly wood rails, I don't like them but if they're maintained they can be skied, I think they're better on cold days.


Also just buy pvc

My buddy had a wooden c box and rainbow box but they had metal coping, the wood is alright, ita that edge thatll get ya. If you do it I take thw esge down with a router or cut and sand er smoothish.
.And as mentuined small pvc tubes are small cheap and generally friendly
