Bit of a threadjack here... but I would like to hear more about the early season. Since I am getting into the backcountry for the first time this year.
What is the minimum snow pack that yall usually wait for?

I live in NH as well, it really depends on what you are looking for. I usually like to spend the first month or so of the season touring resorts to get back into it and build up those muscles again. As far as where to go and base, most places in the whites are pretty rocky so get ready to use some p tex if you are out in the BC early. I usually try and wait for 25-30 inch base which tends to be January and I know a lot of people like to tour the Cog Railway area of Mount Washington early in the season. Hope this helps.
