3-Ski Quiver Opinions

Hey guys,

I recently moved without my skis so I'm getting a new quiver. I picked a few and would like to gather some opinions please.

I'm thinking a 3-ski quiver with the following:

1. A fun, jibbery ski: for those days when I'm staying mostly on groomers, shredding around the resort, occasional park. I like to catch some air, ski switch a lot, jib around, and ski fast. Armada ARV 86 (or should I look at the ARV 96?)

2. All round charger: ski able to handle crud, corn, packed snow, steeper terrain. Something stiffer that #1, more stable and reliable. I plan on mounting some shifts for the occasional touring as well, but I don't care that much about weight. Atomic Bent Chetler 100. (but how about a QST 106 or a Vantage 107 instead?)

3. Powder ski: For those deep powder days. Looking for something fat, floaty, a bit of fun, but also stable. Atomic Bent Chetler 120.

Edit: I'll be skiing in Utah this season (season pass at Snowbasin, and will ski other Utah resorts as well)

Any thoughts?

Good question, season pass at Snowbasin, and will likely move around a bit in Utah during the season to see what else is up there since I just moved from the Alps.

I like the Bentchetler 100 but it isn't a charger and it's not the kind of ski I'd want in really mank snow. I've never skied the new Vantage 107 but to me it would seem out of place in OP's Dream quiver. It's too burly/metal-y/charge-y to complement an ARV/Chetler combo. Ideally all of your skis should perform and feel pretty similar so you don't feel totally out of touch with your lesser used sticks. The QST is actually a super fun ski, it ended up being WAY surfier than I expected but it was still competent in nasty off-piste snow. I was using demo bindings so I moved the mount up ~3cm and the QST's felt pretty loose and playful but maintained good suspension underfoot.

I don't know about the Edollo, might be a tad too much of a noodle for me. I think the ARV96 is a better compromise here.
And the backlands don't go higher than 107, I don't think that would be the best powder option. QST 118 might be a more suitable more stable option, but I think I'm good with the Bent Chetler for powder.

Plus I realized the Vantage has a flat tail, so actually won't work for me. Might go for the QST instead of the Bent Chetler 100 then. I'll try to dig up some more reviews before making my mind.

chetler 100 sounds out of place as your charger/all mountain/crud ski. Too soft, will fold up on you under those conditions. QST 106 is a chill lighter ski for mountain charging/some touring. Would be tight with shifts. If you are willing to branch out to other brands there are a billion other options as well. But the QST seems like a better choice than the chetler 100

Yeah, I know but I get pretty big discounts, so I'd feel silly not to take advantage of them while I have them. Thanks for your input, sounds like I'll be going for the QST!

Is the new Invictus 108ti any lighter than last years? If that comes in around 2000g it could be viable for an occasional tour? Qst is just such a dad ski. I've read some reviews on it and it sounds like a good ski, yet still it screams dad ski to me.

Armada JJ Zero, Armada Kufo 103, Armada B Dog. I have the JJ Zero and B dog, and for longer tours, I have a pair of Black Diamond Helio 105's quiver killered for kingpins that are usually on the JJ's. My "charge" ski is a pair of Volkl Walls, but those don't see much use.

Agree with everyone else that the Bent 100 is not a charger and gets bucked like crazy in crud. Had the 2017 Arv 86 and it’s a fun ski in soft snow but not very damp or great in hard snow/ice but the latest model should be better as it has longer sidewalls now making it a touch stiffer. The ARV96 is a touch beefier than the ARV86 so it’s a better through rough snow so that’s another option for ski #1.

You could also merge #1 and #2 skis with the Armada ARV96 Ti or have it as your “playful charger” type ski. Extra sheet of metal adding dampness and it would charge well through crud and not be too stiff to be fun.

That's a good point. I was relying on the NS page for 18/19 Armada skis, but it's not complete, so these were not on my radar at all, but the Invictus seems like a good alternative to the QST actually. Pretty light at 1875 g. (only an extra 25g from the QST)

I'm now leaning towards the ARV 96 for #1, Chetler 120 for #3. And for #2 I'm forgetting about the Chetler 100, and looking at the QST 106 or Invictus 108. Any opinions on the Invictus 108?

Are Bent Chetler 100s that chargy or crudbusty? They’re pretty light. How do they carve?

For #2 I'd look at what surface skis has got, I think the mountain blanks are around 100 underfoot and pretty stiff for charging. They're selling all their gear cheap too

They are better in crud then their very light weigh would suggest but they aren’t too stiff (up front especially) so not really a crud buster or charger. A similar profile ski would be the Moment PB&J. The Moment PB&J would be stiffer, heavier(but still light), a much better ski through crud and a very stable carver even at high speeds. Love mine!

Do they hold an edge nicely due to how relatively stiff and directional they are? I really like how the Liberty Origin 116 felt on groomers (really powered you thru turns) so I’m wondering if they would be something like that.

Even Liberty has replaced the Origin 116 to the Origin 112 to try and improve its carving performance as it wasn’t known as great carver although that’s wide of course for a carver. The Origin 106 or Origin 96 should be far better for carving if you like the feel of the Origin 116.

The Moment Bibby carves very well for its 116/118 width and the 101mm PB&J is of course even better on harder snow. Similar flex to the Origin line but with stiffer shovels so they are better through crud etc.

I'd personally recommend something a little more buttery and fun than the ARVs if you have a pair of Bent 100s (or something similar). The ARV is pretty stiff and the Bent 100s has a lot of overlap when it comes to what you could be doing on groomers with them. I'd maybe look into some Vishnu Wets, E-Dollos, or something else that's soft and has a lot of rocker.

Just my opinion though. I'm doing something similar and I went with the Wets for the park ski and I'll be getting some Kartel 108s for my stiff/chargy crud and groomer ski. If I was getting something for powder I'd be going with Moment Deathwishes or something similar.
