AstroKushI just bought a flight ticket out to WA to ski with snowboarder buddies this Jan. Never flew with skis before nor have a suitable skibag with solid protective padding for this kind of trip. I'm going to fly Delta BTW- any tips?
I too have thoughts on whenether to leave em at home to save $$ on skibag purchase & as checked in baggage and just rent skis at the mountain to lessen the hassles. I plan on taking my boots along.
Depending on how many days you'll be skiing the cost may be a wash either way.
Are there any good shops that have a good selection of demo skis available at your destination?
I used an old unpadded skibag last year without issue, had two adult and two kids skis and two sets of poles. I put some other stuff like gloves, pants/bibs, rags to protect edges and whatnot and was slightly worried but nothing got damaged.
For a solo traveler if there's a good demo shop there I'd probably just leave your skis at home.
