Upcoming season goals

Hey everyone, this upcoming seasons gonna be my first season focusing a lot on park, and was wondering what you guys think I should be focusing on/what goals to have. (Saw a thread like this thought it would help me). I get around a month of skiing each season and ski mammoth.
I want to learn 3s and 5s first, butters and get really comfortable on rails, maybe a backie. Also would practicing on a tramp help with getting more comfortable in the air? All I can do now on jumps are tweaked safeties and blunts.

Session that tramp as much as you can. It will help a ton. Especially for the back flip. Learn some corks/rodeos and some bigger spins. It will make a 3 seem like childsplay when your thinking about all the other tricks you can do before dropping in.

Yeah man your goals look solid. Just make sure not to forget the basics. You need to set the spin and pop properly.


I am going to be getting into some AT / BC shenanigans. So my goal is to, ya know, not die in an avalanche.

Cool thanks. Started getting into AT/BC a a couple seasons ago (only done it twice), so much fun and so rewarding. If you’re just getting into it spring is great

It's summer. Spend some time on a rope swing and get super comfortable doing backflips off it. That will help with the whole forward momentum thing when you finally backflip on skis. If you can't find a good rope swing, make one. Bonus points if it's bigger than Mike Wilson's rope swing.

Watch loads of rail skiing videos and tutorials such as stomp it or ski addiction. You could also buy or make your own tramp skis and jump onto things such as wooden planks or poles. This has helped me with things like 270s on as you are still balancing on something once you spin.

I dont really know if anyone does this but I think its a great way to improve rail skills, put your ski boots on and if you have a PVC rail you can run up to the rail, hop on it and you will slide; I did this when I was learning swaps and 270's

Get solid set on the basics, spend more time in the park and off the groomed trails. Start trying more exciting things than just straight airing every thing hahaha

Practicing on a trampoline or into water is for sure a good way to go. Do box jumps side to side as well as front and back to build core strength and pop.practice lots of different grabs in all directions, that will get you used to your body moving different ways without too much commitment right off the bat. Practicing some old school tricks is good for that too (Spread eagle/cossacks, daffies, backscratchers). Ski bumps. They will help you get quick. Mammoth is about the best place I can think of to get good at park.

My goals are to perfect 720s and do more backcountry skiing.

OP: YES to tramp/diving board time, especially if you are interested in flips. I can't stress enough how important it is to get your base skills really dialed before you start progressing. If I only had a month, I'd focus on 1's and 3's (different grabs, and all 4 directions) and Sliding every kind of box and rail you can (reg, switch, left foot & right foot lead)... if you're feeling saucy do a backflip or a 5 - but I wouldn't focus on those.

learning to rock up to my noses for a nose block/stall thingy helped... once you really learn to put weight into the nose, they are easier.

I think of them in 3 steps:
- jump to 180
- push noses into the snow (bring up heels, weight forward, while pushing your noses down)
- then pop out of the nose press the same direction while following through with your shoulders to finish your 3.

Extra steeze - switch nollie out of the nose press with your knees up high before you land at 3

Don't rush when learning new things and focus a lot on the basics even tho you think you got them straight. Pop is what most people forget when they're learning tricks since they focus way too much on getting the rotation. Also ask guys in the park for advice and try to ski with people that are better than you, so they can give you tips and tell you what exactly you're doing wrong etc.

My personal goals are 270 ons, 450 offs and switch ups. Highly appreciate any tips on these.

That's what everybody looks like when they're trying new things. Fuck all those people laughing at you, they all looked shitty when they learned nosebutter 360s.

2's on is definitly comitment! Also sliding the rail unnat helps alot! For higher rails make sure you pop first and are above the rail before you spin the 270. Otherwise you get stuck under the rail which not a good time (i know from experience :P). So definitly dont rush the 2on too much!

Hey Dennis, it's Nick from Thredbo! Depends if you want to do the full 360 nosebutter or the 180 nosebutter sw 180 out thing. The first is just really rocking onto your tips (I learned with poles on skis with heaps of rocker).

The other one I learned at the bottom of Gunbarrel by just walking up a little hill and just skiing switch and trying to tripod (get up into a nosebutter using your hands to balance like a snowboarder). Then I just got into that held it and spun my shoulders out. Then once you can pop out work on trying to 180 into the nosebutter.

The dude asking about 4's off and 2's on, for 4's off you just grip like you're spinning a 2 and then I find you have to add a little shoulder wind. Basically use your shoulders to generate more torque. You'll start by throwing 3's off and shuffling but once you get used to your head turning an extra 180 you should be sweet. And for 2's on just really focus on ollieing over the rail before you spin (believe me focusing too much on teh spin and catching tips is terrifying).

I'm hoping to improve my jump game, I learned 7s over summer so I want to nail them down and try to get my 5s with grabs really solid. I'm actually really bad at grabbing and continuing my spin, I just kind of stop grab then spin again when I let go. Also I want to learn cork 7's and frontflips (well frontflips off park jumps because I want to misty). Whats the progression on frontflips off jumps? I'm trying to send them off little rollers and drops around the resort but I suck so far.

Hike rails all season long so I can catch up skillwise, then once I have the tricks down I can start playing with them and the way they look and adding creativity

Do a lot of visualization exercises. Close your eyes and attempt to "feel"the trick in mid air. 3s are the hardest trick to learn; Took me 3 seasons to be able to land them on a 50 footer booter. Inline skating can go a long way. Taking a park and pipe course can help skip through the trial and error stage. Work on cardio and fitness as well as flexibility in order to make your days last longer and crash recovery shorter.

I set many goals each season, but only accomplishing about half of them.
For this season, I wanna ride a line in a new location in the back country, a super steep long line with a big huck (been looking at it for years)
Do a backflip off a cliff
Send a road gap that I know about and do some tricks (Rodeo 7, cork 7 and a frontflip)
Do a multi day hike and camp out the nights
learn to 360 a cliff in deep powder
Do at least 2 competitions

If you have a slack line tighten it up a ton and do swaps and 270s on, it’s really fun sense the Line bounces and you can even do flips off of it

Definitely do a backflip..it’s super easy and boosts confidence immensely.

This season I really want to double backflip, land a clean rodeo 5 and 7 into powder, three a bigger cliff, and keep dialing in the cork 7s. Also stay healthy and have lots of fun
