I have the new c98

compred to a bonafide it’s easier to release, def more fun of a ski and it’s still super stable, it floats well for me in 6”, and can blow thru chop w/o getting knocked around as well as a bonafide or mantra, it’ll still punish a weak skier tho.
That said I’m selling mine with steel pivot 15s almost unused if interested, haven’t gotten around to posting them yet.

VONNNCan anyone share their experience on the new Commander 98? Looks pretty awesome.

I'm looking for a low-tide ski where my priority is performance in ungroomed, variable, off-trail snow.
I'm not overly concerned with groomer performance.

Other skis in this general width that I've owned and loved:

2017 Bonafide in 187 - prob the best 100-mm ski I've ever owned
2021 Mantra 102 in 191 - great ski, but too heavy, not enough rocker, and way too much swing-weight to be fun in tight, bumped out places.

Skiing low-tide Alta/Snowbird the last month has got me looking for that ski that makes skiing bumps and variable more fun. Ideally keeping as much of the dampness and stability of Bonafide and M102 that I've loved, but with a primary goal of increasing pivotability and maneuverability in crappy conditions.

So Ill give my update / impressions.

I went into the season with a quiver of Fischer Gunbarrel 65's (177cm), Moment Commander 98's (188cm), Moment Wildcat 108's (190cm), and Atomic Bentchetler 120's (193cm). Everyone gets a look Pivot with a metal toe.

I managed about 65 days spread across Mammoth, Taos, Steamboat, Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, Deer Valley, Jackson Hole, Silver, Schweitzer, and Bachelor - all sorts of conditions.

6'3" 200lb level three cabbage with collarbones intact.

Moment Wildcat 108's.

On my feet 70% of the time. Didn't matter that I spent a good chunk of Feb in drought in that Steamboat / SLC / Jackson storm track (super firm) - the ski is just good at almost everything. It just has a great tweener nature. Its stiff and stable enough to charge pretty well, but the easy tail release makes it ski super short. Once I figured out my lines (remember - am cabbage) I had no issues bombing through variable (mostly firm) moguled trees at Steamboat in the closets area, or at Taos in the Wild West glade (not firm - super soft - it's a goddamn rainforest in there), and the attributes that make the ski work well in trees translates to narrow, technical steeps, moguls, or just scrubbing speed on a runout. It's an incredibly fun and versatile ski. Perhaps my favorite thing about it is that its punch in chop. On those 6" days when the mountain gets cutup a few hours in, you will have no speed limit. These things crush chop.

Moment Commander 98's

Very stable with great tail hold - but they will buck the shit out of you on ungroomed firm. I mostly ski Mammoth, and it can go variable from a nice wind buff you can edge, to refrozen corn ice sheet as you hit different spots, and these skis will punish the hell out you on the latter if you misread.

At first I wasn't super keen on them, but then a few days after a Presidents day dump at JHMR, on the first warm day after, I pretty quickly learned that these things are corn killers. When it warms up a bit, and some of the junk softens, these things can be demons. As long as they can cut through they'll let you go fast and be stable. I like them - they are just picky about their snow conditions unless just ripping groomers is your jam - in which case send it off some rolls these things are great at that. Fantastic spring ski.



Super stoked with both Moment skis. Wildcat 108s are definitely going to have a place in my bag forever. Best skiing I had this year was charging on those at Brighton (not super steep, why its so fun to charge) on a dad pow weekday. They gave me everything and more. Happy on the Comm 98's when conditions both require and encouraged. They are a tasty snack conditions provided.

Keep crushing it. Ill buy more at some point.

Anyone tele on moments? Looking for a new tele ski and they look fun. Also hear that the triple camber is great

I tele on some DW 104s mounted outlaw x and Meridians mounted with freerides that both absolutely rip. DW 104s are fun, more versatile, nimble, but I prefer the plankiness and big radius of the Meridians. Size up if you go DW 104, I have 184 but should have gone 190. Triple camber is nice on ice but i’m addicted to chargy skis cause of the meridians, the deathwishes aren’t soft but they just aren’t as aggressive.
Fasa at the moment factory tele skis and could walk through what option would work best for you

Looking for some advice, thinking my all mountain ski next year is gonna be the 184 Wildcat 101. Any benefit to waiting for next seasons line to drop, or should I snag a pair now? Will there be a big price difference, or any changes to the ski besides top sheet? Still a little hung up on the decision between 101 and 108 as well, I ski mainly trees and not a ton of deep powder but not sure if I should go to the bigger width

If you're not spending a lot of time in deep snow the 101's are a great all mountain ski, the hardpack performance is really good, they hold an edge really well and are still a load of fun. Pretty quick edge to edge once you get a bit of speed behind you, so in trees I'd rather have the 101 than the 108

I have a 95mm ski for really low tide days with no chance of any soft stuff but will take the 101's out on any days with softer snow, I reckon they'll hold up in anything up to 18 inches of powder, took mine out for a day of boot top powder and they were the perfect ski for the job. They're a really fun and confidence inspiring ski.

If I didn't have Kartel 116's for the deeper days and places like Japan I'd grab a pair of full fat Wildcat's without hesitation.

Yeah man the 101s are perfect for what you’re wanting. Late summer Moment does a sale on last season’s skis at skiburger.com so I’d say wait for that.

So Max hooked it up finding a pair of DWT mid-winter and I haven't really been back in here much since! But the Moment dudes were so rad and here's a little update on the sticks.
I've now ridden them in a whole bunch of conditions and what I thought would become my longer-tour-days ski is now my any-tour-at-all ski. They're so light and so fun and I already feel like I can trust them anywhere.

Uphill:
Total dream. Coming from Kartel 108s with CAST I shaved almost 1kg per ski so no surprise there. The Voyager's climbing bails are the easiest I've used so that's another plus. Had a couple longer tours with dudes way more in shape than me and these skis saved my ass a couple times (and left me with enough gas to enjoy the down).

Groomers:
A slackcountry day that was cut short ended with me riding DWTs and Voyagers all over Blackcomb a week after the last snowfall, so I got a good sense of how these feel on edge on hard, even snow. Maybe it's the decade and a half of being on park skis but I've literally never felt edges grip so hard and rail carves like this. Like a damn rollercoaster - point it and lean in and the ski just takes you where you wanna go. Not once have I had the thought "I'm on a touring ski with a pin binding".
Wondering if a regular DW might find its way into the quiver...

Chop/hardpack chalk:
Probably would be asking a lot of a touring ski/pin binding setup to excel here, and I was definitely yearning for my Kartel 108s with metal pivots on a particularly chalky bumpy run, but they were stable and predictable even if they did get knocked around a bit. Held up great through a couple spicy entrances and that's about all I could ever ask for.

Trees:
Absolutely in love with them here. Both in fresh and in tracked. So light n snappy but wide and floaty, that you can play around in carve mode or slash mode (the second you get on this ski these two distinct modes are apparent) and make quick adjustments between whenever you want. Solid enough to inspire confidence through the under-canopy garbage snow typical of lower elevation trees on the way back to the trailhead.

Spring chutes:
The light weight and the shorter length I went with, paired with the insane edge hold make for a confidence-inspiring tool to make it down steep/narrow lines even when they're a little more solid than you'd like.

Open pow:
Floats great, not surprising at 112mm. Was nervous about float and stability sizing down to the 184, but have honestly never felt they're too short even where it's wide open. I'm 6'0 180ish for reference.

Slush and corn:
Same as pow honestly, except more opportunity to play with the dual personality of railing edges and slashy turns. Real fun and them being so light makes them fun to snap out.

Aesthetics:
Just gotta put that out there. This is probably the most beautiful ski I've owned. The marbly cloudy graphic, nice typography and colours down to the the craggy stuff on the tails - they look so rad.

Next condition I'm pumped to try: hiking for 3 hours in the summer to hit the lil snow patch and having 2kg less on my back than I did last year.


So yeah. Real pumped about these and I really don't tour on anything else any more. Thanks to this thread and Max and Cy and all the Moment folks.

From my perspective, there's a gap in the market for narrow twinned freeride-esque skis.

If I want something with a little more oomph than a park ski, I'm pretty much stuck with a flat tail or stepping up to something over 100mm underfoot, which is unnecessarily wide for most days in New England. Not necessarily Moment's problem, but it would be cool to see more options in this space

As long as it's not ridiculous park ski ideas, yes, it's helpful to get emails regarding the types of skis people want. Whenever we discuss the lineup and possible changes, our sales team can chime in with "we've gotten a lot of requests for this general type of ski" and it helps put some data behind the assumptions.

We haven't produced the Strega in a few seasons, but you're right, it was a Japan exclusive model. There was also a Japan exclusive Belafonte topsheet quite a few years ago, I'll toss a pic at the bottom. Other than those two, I can't think of any other models we produce at scale that are not available to the North American market.

If I didn't have my perfectly fine Faction Agent 2.0's already, I'd have bought a pair this season.... SO PLEASE DON'T DISCONTINUE IT

IIRC, the special Belafonte graphic was due to retailers at SIA thinking it was too scary, so we came up with a new one prior to production. Our Japanese distributor thought it was sick so we produced some specifically for his market.

The Strega was specifically requested by our Japanese distributor, who wanted a very short, quick turning ski for the market, as most of their groomed trails are short and sweet (more turns = the run feels longer).

It's fairly rare that we produce something for a specific market though, most things we produce are available to everyone.
