OlimarDefinitely enjoy spinning and playful skiing. But ultimately I was hoping to get different skis for different days/styles of skiing. So Im thinking the commander 98 w/pivots for hardpack/skiing fast/ripping groomers and then the wildcat 108 w/cast for a daily driver sort of ski + touring, and then the bentchetlers w/shifts for deep days inbounds and out. Or am I totally missing the mark on how to properly build a quiver of skis here?

Also, am I going to hate skiing shift bindings inbounds with my size? Heard they can be problematic for larger people. If so, I would probably find a pair of bindings to put on the Wildcats I currently have and save them for deep days at the resort.

SavageBiffThose guys are gonna give you a better answer than me, but to me that sounds like a killer well spread quiver. I think I read you already have the chets/shifts… if so rock em, learn about the finicky issues with the shift and how to cope, if you do and have a good tech they should serve you well, how tall/heavy are you? I do think dukes or cast would be better unless your really set on the lightweight go with a voyager.

myguy6'3" 220lb 35 y/o just moved to the west coast and it dawned on me that only owning super stiff crud crunchers to throw myself down the ice faces of New England might leave me wanting.

So now I have 190cm Wildcat 108's - easily the most interesting stick in the bag.

I figured they were more of a difference from the sorts of things I have lying around (Head Supershape, Volk AC30) than something like a Comm 98 (though that 108 in 194cm was real tempting).

Might be having a mid life crisis. Definitely going to do some Ikon touring since I didn't ski at all last winter and before that I was still east. Am absolutely pumped.

vermontanaAight NS, need some advice. Deathwish or Commander 108. Will be mounted up with CAST to take traveling and use for some sidecountry missions. Mostly ski east coast but usually spend a month or so in northern rockies each year visiting fam and traveling around.

Deathwish is appealing because all around versatility, seems like it would float a bit better and ski/land switch better (though not a priority)

C108 is appealing because they just seem like absolute chargers, stable and fast - which caters to my style more than something surfy and playful. Seems like they'd have similar low snow performance to the DW but maybe dive a bit more in deep snow. (also I love the topsheet for this year)



Any thoughts?

SavageBiffI’ve never recommend someone take the shorter ski, but for you I’d say 176 unless your a very heavy 5’7

SavageBiffI’d say 176 as your height is 170 cm that’s gonna be about 6cm over your head and should provide plenty of support for you in the intended conditions.

for comparison I’m 184cm,175lbs, really strong, like to think I’ve got excellent technique and ski 183-194, got the c98 in 188 (+4cm) on my height, I really only need the 190s for powder, or if there’s a short EE and I’m gonna be charging I’ll upsize, I absolutely cannot ski anything under 183 just feels short.

How did u like the 182s you rode? For comparison, the c98 is gonna ski and feel longer at the same length cause more EE, is more directional, and while it’s got an easy releasing tail, it’s no wildcat

Chron_RabbitI’m pretty sure the wildcats I rode last season came in at 184 and I like them a lot-probably because of the crazy forward pressure you can put on the boots with a ski that size. I’m 26 and I’ve been skiing 30+ days every year since I was 12 so I’d say I’m solid at this point. The wildcats are the first ski I’ve ridden over 180cm. I had Nordica helldorados which I think are more similar in construction to the commanders (both have stiff layers) and I think they were 174. They smashed but they were also like 114 under foot. Figured the extra length might help for mobbing. Thanks for the replies btw.

SavageBiffHmmm… maybe get at hot pocket for his opinion, while I said the EE of the commander is longer, it’s barely longer, the c98 is heavier but not a lot, while 12cm over your head is a lot , you may prefer it for your style, I’d let ya demo mine but they’re 188 so might not compare well to the 182.

My final thought would be you may appreciate the 176 as it will still be quite stable , and supportive in softer snow but easier and quicker to change direction, you may appreciate that in terrain that requires last moment changes

Ajpearson92What’s up pals, back with another addition to the endless debate in size vs size. Adding some fatcats to the family this year but I’m torn between the 179’s and the 184’s.


If my posture is nice and I only had a couple beers the previous night then I’m 5’7” 145lbs.
Currently on some 174 wildcat 108’s which were my first introduction to moment, awesome size for a playful ski. Also on the 174 DW.

Obviously the fatcats will be the storm day skis, hence me sizing up from my go-to. They’ll also be mounted at +2 from the rec line as I prefer the air control and flick ability over the benefits of perfect footing on the sidecut apex.

So what do we think, 179 or 184. I rode a friends 186 governors and obviously it was too big and a directional ski, but it kicked my ass. So I still have some PTSD when I see ski lengths in the 180’s.

RodiganI am 5'9 and a little heavier than you and 184 is perfecto for me. I would take the 179 brother

ThaLoraxI'm 5'2 (157cm) and 115lbs and happily ride thr 174cm Bibby (the OG wildcat). Go the longer lengths if you're a strong skier.

ThaLorax(Back)ordered the 174cm Wildcat 101. I'm only 5'2"/157cm. Hope it's not too much ski for me as an everyday ski. I previously had the PB&J 172cm and have some OG Bibby's in 174cm. Love(d) them both, so I'll probably be fine?

Sounds like the Commander 108 is the ticket for you based on your description of your skiing style [absolute chargers, stable and fast - which caters to my style more than something surfy and playful]. You can certainly charge on the Deathwishes, I do from time to time and rarely feel like I'm holding on for dear life, but those of us who like to ski fast and straight, the Commander 108 is more aptly suited.

Could also consider the Deathwish 104, as it's a chunk stiffer than the Deathwish 112 and feels like a Deathwish with some Commander blood in it.
