I know this thread sounds lame but I'd rather post here than Facebook, lol. Anyway I'm considering traveling for 6+ months but I have a darling little kitty named Rocky. She's an indoor/outdoor cat and the longest I've left her since I got her last November is 7 days. During the times I've left I've had a friend or two come in and check on her, let her outside for a sec, change her litter, and feed her. I haven't had a sitter stay overnight or anything like that. My concern is leaving for this length of time and having to relocate her. I think it would be best to keep her at my house (I live alone and she rules this place) than to send her to a kennel or to my neighbor's home or something. Also, it is important to note that I plan on keeping my apartment through the time that I'm gone instead of moving out and having her stay with someone else and putting all my stuff in storage. That being said, do any of you have experience with an in-home sitter or subleaser? How much would that cost? Where do I find a petsitter/subleaser?
Also, sidenote: I'm prepared to pay for and stock up on food/litter/toys/trash bags/ etc. that would be needed during the 6 months I'm gone, plus rent. Would it be fair to ask the pet sitter to pay for utilities and wifi or should I cover that too? I have no experience with this so any comments, tips, tricks, concerns are welcomed.
On another note, would my cat remember me / would she hate me? I won't be traveling until January but I want to start figuring out all the details ahead of time.
