BigPurpleSkiSuitOnce my gotamas are basically done for I am slightly tempted to mount them backwards for meme factor and challenging people to race me if they think they know better

Knewnewsway back when Line had the Skogen skis with the train on them, a friend had a shop mount them and they did them backwards. it was too funny.
LonelyHad a boot fitter get all offended when I said my foot size was 11.5 but I preferred to wear larger boots.
He goes on about how I dont know what I'm talking about and that I need smaller boots to have more power to my bindings.
I try them on, say they are uncomfortable and too small. He says thats a good thing and that hes been a boot fitter for a few years so he knows his shit and I dont.
Fast forward to my toes getting bruised to the point that my toenails fall off every season since due to my feet being crammed into these boots.
I get thay you should trust professionals but I hate it when ski shop people are too enamored with themselves to listen to their customers needs.
IsitWinterYet17How bout ya get out of the backseat ya fook!
But really. Maybe you're right, but I'll agree what others have said. Get out of the backseat. Maybe some booster straps will help.
In my experience, I moved from a boot too big where I never had toe bang problems to a boot appropriately sized for my foot. The first day out early December, I royally fucked my toe. It was all black and blue and I ended up having to drain blood from the nail. After learning that I still can't ski for shit, I got myself out of the backseat and no problems since regardless of how aggressive I ski. My nail has just finally healed, 7 months later, after falling off and having to regrow itself.
Not to judge, but seeing as you listed your boot size as 11.5 versus Mondopoint doesn't help your case that you know better.
LonelyIf you read the thread you would have already had an answer to this. Ive been skiing for a while. Previous pairs of boots didnt give me an issue. My current pair doesnt give me issues. Only that pair fucked up my feet.
Said the shoe size because im too lazy to look up the mondo.
Seeing that your a skier from Ohio and have only been on here since last year doesnt really help your case.
IsitWinterYet17Dude you're from Mt Bohemia Michigan. If you were from out west or even New England I'd tip my hat, but please lol. I don't ever ski in Ohio (1000% not worth it) .

LonelyI didn't realize jay had cat skiing.
IsitWinterYet17I'm not really following, but if you're trying to do a claim thread, you're not claiming much. Good for you that you live in BFE Michigan with 900 vertical. Holy cow cat skiing! I'm so jelly. Chill dude.
As far as me, I am unfortunately stuck in the center of Ohio for my job currently and don't have the luxury of skiing everyday, but that doesn't stop me from traveling on my off days and skiing actual mountains. This year I've been to A Basin, Winter Park, Loveland, Powder mountain, Snowbird, Solitude, Alta, Jay Peak, Mad River Glen, Smugglers Notch to name a few places, not including the smaller ones in NY and WV I've went to as well. Don't assume just because I live in Ohio, that I ski there. If you're not skiing park, you're not skiing in Ohio.
SchlossAdlerThis post has got me worried, I've been riding a pair of Sin 7's for the last 3 or 4 years when I'm not on twintips, have y'all been judging me silently that whole time?
Also do you guys not have good local stores? I live in Australia and my local stores are killer, they do my edges precisely how I want them, hook me up with free waxes and usually just love having me come in since I'm not a total gaper. Usually we end up just shooting the shit and hanging out. They also hook up homie discounts. Like damn go to a different shop till you find a good one.

-eREKTion-Shop employee, I'll add my two cents on a couple topics here.
Din: I'll set your DIN wherever you want but you have to sign a release. Yeah, if you look like a gaper I'm going to question why you need a 10+ DIN because you're probably a retard.
Janky ass boots: I'm not going to fuck with your gear if your boot soles look like they got brutalized by a belt-sander. I've got indemnification releases for shitty bindings but not shitty boots.
Shitty bindings: If your bindings are no longer indemnified I'll probably just have you sign a release but if your bindings literally creak and grind when I start adjusting, I'm not fucking with them no matter how many releases you sign.
Mount Point: Most people don't know where they want their bindings mounted so I ask a few questions and slam em on the rec line. A surprising number of people come in and request center mounts; on park skis I just go for it but on anything else I ask a few questions. It's not a matter of me thinking I know more than you it's just that after you here 15 retards ask for center mounted Soul 7's you begin to question everyone's mental well-being.
From center mounted Soul 7's to people asking if it's worth getting "parabolic" skis, shop employees hear more dumb shit than you can possibly imagine. And lastly, NO, you cannot borrow some tools to "just do it yourself". Go fuck yourself, Jerry.
TRVP_ANGELmore like "im not going to set your din beyond 8, that's unsafe"
hot.pocketLiability.Yep. liability is spot on. If you do want it set to something other than the chart you would need to sign the form marker has stating customer opt'd for something else. Most people just think 8 means expert. A lot of people ski shops deal with are just saying what they've overheard their ski buddy they look up to said once.
If someone mounts your bindings and cranks the din way past what the din chart recommends for your height / weight / skier ability, and you hurt yourself, that shop can get pretty screwed. Don't fight shop employees over what din you want, just set it yourself, they've got a lot more to lose by cranking it way past what it should be at and it's ridiculously easy to do on your own.
Overly exaggerated with the whole killing yourself thing, but liability. Those screws would have ripped out in a heartbeat and you would've been in a worse situation you were before.
RudyGarmischski salesman: *slaps topsheet of skis* this bad boy can fuckin butter down the entire mountain
*ninja*tries to sell me swimtrunks while im puchasing ski shit in the winter. Those are gold. swimtrunks as an upsell is obvious since everyone knows you go from the hill to the hottub...
JohngreenacreYep but some ski shop technicians seem to think it's always dumb as fuck. "You don't ski backwards enough for it to matter" buddy I promise you that I do. Just do it I'm paying you money
hootsquadthis. you want the midsole of your boot at the narrowest part of the sidecut which should make the ski turn its best, forwards or backwardsSpot on. most kids dont even know that a twin tip ski is not always symmetrical. Even the chronics are directional. Ski on the same ski switch with one center mounted and one back from center and i will guarantee it will be more stable and smoother rolling edge to edge not mounted center.
roharaIt sounds like ski shop staff in the US fucking suck at their jobs
philipcI hate it when they say, "i love my life". no you don't.
iwuvkittycats420“Your total is $500”
Juan1325I hate when they try to sell you a random binding for your new ski when you want some pivots
adamwolynWas in a bootshop in the Bay Area waiting when I overheard some 70yo manager/owner type say ”I only get gear from real ski brands like head”
Yea because being in the tennis, racquetball, squash, snowboarding, and swimming business doesn’t affect how legitimately you are a skiing company.
madsskaarAlso probably the best ski brand when it comes to racing considering all the best alpine racers in the world uses it

The referenced post has been removed.
The company was founded in Baltimore, Maryland, United States, in 1950 by aeronautical engineer Howard Head, after he took a ski trip and was astonished to see his skis were made of wood in an era when metals and plastics were replacing wood in many product designs. Head worked at the Glenn L. Martin Company where they used a form of aluminum and plastic laminate to build the fuselages of aircraft, and he felt the same material would make an ideal ski. After two years of constantly breaking skis, by the winter of 1950 they had a design that not only stayed together, but made turning dramatically easier.
adamwolynYea you could say that but it’s pretty ignorant to say it’s a REAL ski company. Real ski companies are founded and owned by skiers and not greedy businessmen or larger corporations that think they can milk our industry and not put back into it.
Tall t is a good example of a REAL ski company. I wrote a note in my order about how excited I was that they brought back my favorite tall t design(the music one) and they hand wrote a note back. Shows how much they care and that they take the time to write that. Also the standard stickers to raise the hype
I would be blabbergasted if head ever did that lmfao

TheDoughAbidesyou might be right but isn't it more likely that head has decided to spend a lot of money sponsoring high profile racers. I really don't think ski brand matters all that much when youre looking at skiers with that much skill. Marcel Hirscher clicks into atomics...

OregonDeadMost annoying is when shops can't set an appointment to do shop work for you. For something takes about the same amount of time as a haircut it is super annoying for someone to ask you to make two trips to their shop.
J_ChristophOh here's another one
"Skis? Cross-country? or alpine?"

JibbaTheHuttfun fact the head logo is actually a ski tip with a rivet in it
Jesse_"Ello, when I mounted your...Own-threep? skis at recommended where you asked I realized how crazy dull the edges are." I looked at him confused "Are you sure you want that? Going to be hard to carve and turn properly I don't think you should have that! I can sharpen them right now for you if you want, bad idea if not."
He was some old french guy and was being completely serious before anyone asks and he kept insisting I was making a huge mistake. I was about to nope the fuck out of there, motherfucker truly wanted and continually insisted I should let him sharpen my factory detuned 2018 ON3P magnuses. Jokingly told this other ski tech homie who also skied park and we laughed about it, became a running joke afterwards.
It's crazy how disconnected some people are within the industry when it comes to park skiing.

getCORKEDThat’s the exact same mistake I made this season. Both my big toenails fell off. It’s shit
Ryanvdonkcurious, do you still feel the front with the bigger boots?
