Zero Spin in Half Pipe

A zero spin in pipe, is it:
Taking off backwards and landing down the pipe backwards
or
Taking off backwards and landing forwards

Instinct tells me it's staying backwards the entire time you are in the air, but that's requires you to spin 90 degrees... so that makes it greater than zero.

But when you do a straight air in pipe it's not called a 180....

but when you do a 540 it is called a 540. I never thought about this before.

yeah, a zero would have you take off switch, not move, and land forwards. come to think of it ive never seen one, sounds sick

If you check Elizabeth Swaney's Olympic half pipe run you'll see a perfect example of a zero spin in a pipe.

The thing thats confusing is a zero is taking off switch, not spinning and landing switch. Technically it may not be possible to "zero spin" in the pipe because if you take off and land switch you have to 180 in the air

A zero spin off a jump though is switch to switch so in a half pipe I just picture it like a quarter pipe hit to a straight landing. If he took of straight and landed switch it would be a 180 but if he goes switch to switch it’s a zero spin.

I vote for zero spin being switch to switch like Duncan Adams second hit.

I feel like it depends on how you hit the pipe. If you jump straight up and land right where you took off I feel like a zero is sw to forward. But if you hit the pipe at an angle, and travel down the pipe a ways a zero is sw to sw.

if you start switch and then land forward its a pop tart. if you start switch and then land switch then its a zero spin or switch air

There is no straight air in the pipe.

No body hits the pipe at a perpendicular angle. You jump off at an angle and land further downhill. You need that bit of spin to bring it back around.

If you take off forward and spin left (you land forward) or right (you land switch). This adjustment isn't greater than 180 so it dosen't really register.. It is a minor spin that is required to not die in the pipe. If you don't spin at all you will land at a weird angle and eat snow.


Sw to Sw on a jump is zero spin/straight air. Its the same trick for jumps vs quarter pipe. It just makes zero sense when you say its the same thing in a pipe.

Halfpipe (or angled takeoff): switch to switch
Quarterpipe (or perpendicular takeoff): switch to forwards

I think it depends on how you take off from the half pipe. If you come off the lip coming straight up than yes going switch to forward would be a zero spin. But if you’re coming off at more of an angle then a switch to switch would be a zero spin. Interesting question and not 100% sure this is a good answer but it’s what I think
