freeskibum82180s. Im just not a fan of metal in skis. I like the predictable flex pattern of wood core. They are light though
Mr.BishopHah yeah - there definitely is some sort of big change coming. :)
I like this idea.... expand on your thoughts if you don't mind.
cozzeyDamn. If they were the 188s I’d probably try and buy them from you.
freeskibum82they are the LTDs as well. All white top sheet instead of the gray

GrandThingsI've thought about trying to do something like this for a while, but it would be dope if it was site-sponsored to get more engagement. During the winter (or peak season whatever.) Post a thread every day like "first person to post a double-backflip wins a T-shirt" or "first person to walk through the entire lodge with their skis on wins a sticker pack." Make it a good mix of silly activities and tricks so that even people who arent as good at skiing have a chance to win something/feel included. Sort of a site-wide King of the Road/Scavenger hunt/game of gnar that would get people checking in everyday/posting/trying to do stuff for NS. I'm bored so I made a quick list below.
Most switchups
take a pic with a pro
fastest switch bomb
Butter down your bunny hill
Chairlift jump
biggest air - smallest feature
best snowboarder spray
best lodge meal under $5
Furthest gap out of rail
Triple?
most chicken fingers eaten?
bigcat. So kind of like what the Ski or Die global challenge was?
Mr.BishopYou can't dismiss the new generation like that. They consume things differently, and it is up to the older folk to adapt.
If anything, the right move for the future is to switch away from a completely advertising supported model, and onto subscriptions.
Subscriptions allow for a fraction of the size of audience to generate radically more revenue. That could all go towards content.
I actually don't know where CKO is at these days. Hung out with Felix the other night at a bowling alley though. :)
Poikenzjust one big knuckle with a super deep landing, would be cheap to build and could get nutty.
finderIt's still pretty expensive to build a massive knuckle. If one were to find land with the right shaped landscape for it, that would help, as well as pushing dirt around to blow snow over with the downside that paying for landscaping and excavation would cost a lot but be cheaper in the long run.

finderI'd be happy to pay a subscription for newschoolers if it had something along the lines of ad free premium content. Would also be nice to see the "annual" NS magazine to come back.
Mr.BishopIntersting, so like as someone else said - sort of like a Ski or Die type thing, except instead of being all in one place the connecting thing is the website. People do the challenges all over the world?
Pretty interesting concept, I like it.
Yeah I mean if we went in this direction, that would be how it would work. There's a premium tier of content, which would essentially be funded directly by subscriptions. The mag would be entirely possible to include under this type of a model.
The biggest problem with the Magazine was that it relied on Newsstand distribution. The company that owned Newschoolers back then was like the #2 Magazine distributor in the USA... so Newsstands were the shit. We happened to launch the mag basically the first year that Newsstand sales of magazines started to really collapse. :)
Mr.BishopResponse to OP -
The one comment I do really agree with is that NS needs to start producing way more content. We actually did spend a massive amount of money doing view-based revshare with a ton of producers for many years. It was a great system, but failed for a number of reasons.
We have a large budget for creating content as well as buying the rights to 3rd party content which is in play for the 2018-2019 season.
This statement is entirely false. We have a team of writers - both staff and Freelance who are regularly paid for their news contributions. We have true contributors who are passionate about the industry and were writing thought provoking articles at least daily - sometimes 5-6 of them in a day.
Did you miss the entire news program, or are you saying you didn't like the content?
_______
a_burgersharing articles like https://www.newschoolers.com/news/read/A-simple-delicious-guide-baking-Seasoned-chips
on facebook is not a step in the right direction. I'd be fucking pissed if I had an edit on the homepage trying to compete with bs like this especially since news articles automatically are weighted heavier by default
some other thoughts on this matter I figure i'd bring up: if you want kids to put their content on NS then they need to actually have a fair chance of competing. By having orange names be orange (as opposed to blue) on the homepage it automatically draws in more attention then a blue name and shit will more likely then not climb to the top of the homepage very fast compared to a bluename edit. Why would some kid bother to go through the trouble of exporting his edit in hd and uploading it for 5-10 upvotes when he can throw it on insta and get 100-200 likes?
Like I get that the site is stepping towards curated content, but you shouldn't be so reckless and half-assed about it. There's so much talent out there today that I think it's silly that someone who met some qualifications to receive an orange name ages ago should automatically have an advantage over every other piece of content coming out. Especially companies, their name should carry enough weight on it's own that they don't need to be highlighted even further.
FiddlesticksOne article out out how many fucking legit articles that get posted all summer? Who cares? I'd be willing to bet less than 5k people on FB saw it anyways. They share out all the good content already during the summer since there's fuck all to share anyways.
As for kids putting content on NS: it's not that they don't have a chance to stand out. They're fucking lazy and just want instant gratification from their 5k instagram followers instead. How hard would it be for them to upload it here, share one or two clips from it and say "check my bio for the new edit blah blah blah and toss an upvote if you like it!". Also, orange names on NS were once blue. It didn't stop them from uploading in the past, why would it now? That argument is no different than saying that "Bobby Brown is verified on IG and his posts are going to do better than my page! Why should I bother trying to grow mine when those pesky verified athletes are just going to steal all my followers and my spot in the explore page?"

GrandThingsRed name burner account?
Mr.BishopOk, but what if we have a Killington re-union?
If you didn't come, I'd cry myself to sleep.
I've heard consistently that Troll is a pretty unreal place. Andy says that on the tour, that place has more energy than almost anywhere else on the planet.
