chris.goodhueI know a tun of kids arouns Montana who will post their edits or photos on NS but never actively use the site and participate in the community side of things. I believe there is a disconnect of everyone wanting their content to be seen on NS, but not viewing others.
.
SkibumsmithA lot of the ‘news articles’ that are featured on NS are absolute trash and lack depth compared to the content put out on pinkbike. That’s why I quit reading them.
I feel like a 5th grader opening up a scholastic news article when I read content on NS.
RoggeIf Doug throws a reunion, I'll go. We can make Line Skis buy all the booze. Josh is good for it. Doug has to convince Schmuck and Harvey to come, though.
theabortionatorPeople want to read shorter things or more "interesting" things.
SkibumsmithYou shouldn’t have to cater to a generation of mouth breathers whose addiction to Instagram has caused them to have the attention span of a diseased rat.
RparrHave you ever seen the movie Idiocracy? I firmly believe we are moving in that direction faster than most would think
Mr.BishopWho brings the walkers and canes for us though?

RoggeChris K O'Connell still around? Or maybe we can get the D Structure friends to help.

Mr.BishopTo everyone else: I highly suggest dialling down your visits to Newschoolers in the summertime. We have made the decision that we want to be a Ski-focused site, and that means things aren't going to be as bumping in North American summertime.
Just stop by when winter gets rolling, and you should be pleased with how much more the Winter and Skiing focused plan is coming together.
Mr.BishopIf anything, the right move for the future is to switch away from a completely advertising supported model, to a subscription based service.
. :)
BonzaloWhat about us skiers from the southern hemisphere?? I want to get pumped too.
BonzaloWhat about us skiers from the southern hemisphere?? I want to get pumped too.
hippystinxI have been here for 12 years or so. Since 2006 i believe. The day ns is subscription fee based is the day like many other random services i refuse to pay for will be the day i stop coming here. And something much better will end up replacing ns.
Mr.BishopActually, this is a pretty good point. We probably should just start going insano on the southern hemisphere in our summer. Got ideas? Can we recruit people from your part of the world to chat skiing in the forums? What do we need to do to engage these people?
Cool your jets there bud, the whole thing wouldn't be subscription based, and we'd never force it. It would just be something for super premium content. Forums are fine as free, but when people constantly want ultra core and ultra high quality content... they're going to have to pay for it at some point.
Every single person in the world right now who produces high quality content is facing the same struggle. That "Something better" you're waiting for won't come around if it is all ad and sponsorship focused. Or it will, and you'll bitch endlessly about how many ads and/or sponsorships there are to ensure the business stays around.
theabortionatorSend TC to Africa. I can help with the logistics if needed.

Mr.BishopHah yeah sorry man, I went and had another kid so I've been locked away in baby mode for 3 years. Happens...
Good news is that once they're two you can get right back to partying, so lets see if we can set something up this season. :)
I mean everything is a bitch and a half. It totally depends on what you're trying to do - but if you act like a semi-responsible business person then resorts are willing to play ball.
As a matter of fact, that is sometimes the good part about having a big company like TEN on your side for us... we get a shit ton of clout when talking to resorts. We also have a massive insurance policy, which takes us like 24 hours to get 10 million in liability... which goes a long way.
Vailresorts is an entirely different animal, but anything is possible with enough money for them. So at least, you know where you stand.
Can you describe to me your perfect event?

zuesThis stupid site used to ban me for weeks on end because I would make fun of other members favorite hockey teams in 2011. It's like LOL give me a break power hungry cunts. Ban me now you've gotten everyone else.
No seriously though I just think theres way more ski websites out there now. Plus I grew up with this site while it was booming in highschool 10 years later i'm never on here anymore. I'm working, etc.

LonelyWhat other websites/forums are there really besides NS and TGR.
I feel like the two of those make a good part of the online ski community excluding stuff like reddit.
freeskibum82I pose a question. of the 40 people currently signed on, how many ski a park ski as their daily driver? Im willing to bet the answer to that is an indicator that the "newschool" is over.
I ski the blizzard rustler 10 now. still own park skis but very rarely do they come out to play.

DesertStixEhh when I look around, the majority of skis on the mountain that aren’t rentals are in fact twin tip/park skis. I use mine everywhere...
zuesSame here i still have 6 year old armada AR6's. Where do you ski? that makes a big difference as to what you see.

LonelyI feel like the definition of park skis has change a lot too. I see more and more people riding big ol pow sticks and wide skis in the park than a more traditional park ski like the chronics or kinks.
DesertStixFor sure. I think there’s a lot to be said for having a wider base when clamping on a rail for example. There just isn’t as much surface area on an 86 compared to say, 100 or 110, which just leads to more stability on the feature.
freeskibum82that is an interesting perspective onit. i find i am much more maneuverable on a rossi scratch on rails than my mordecai, blizzards or S5s. Im old school with rails though, usually hitting them with much more speed than i see out of others and i dont typically do switchups or any of that. I like to pivot on the rail using the edges. i guess it comes from my rollerblading background.
Crust_StationNow that super unknown has become a much more inaccessible contest where it’s skiers that already have followings on ig and arent unknown at all, it would be really cool for ns to do a video contest especially if there was a way to make time restraints, like posting guidelines that would make you have to film specific things, Im not sure exactly how it would be done but it could be a cool way to get people stoked on the community again, people love to feel special.
a_pla5tic_bagCan we just delete all the I x'd, ask me anything threads?
mason_pachulskiIsn’t that what X Games real ski is tho
JoergaAs one of the few full time freeski editors left, I second that!

cozzeyI’ve got blizzard Rustler 11s and 4frnt hojis. So yeah I rarely go into the park. I’ve got some line sick days that I just don’t enjoy riding so I’ll ride em in the park but don’t even wanna take them on the mountain.
How ow do you like the 10s?
freeskibum82I really like the 10s for those hardpack days where you can find some leftovers in the woods. Im on the east coast so they are not too wide for a daily driver and are super stable at speed. They have a little bit of a tail so i can still land switch here and there if needed. Ive taken them in the park but do not like the feel of them off jumps. I recently picked up an old school pair of Rossi S5s and Im torn between the two. Part of me likes the R10 for the stability and and how well it carves on groomers but the S5 is just down perfect for those slash style turns and quick jibs. Because they dont have metal i can load up the tail and change direction quickly in the woods without having it snap back on me. It may be slightly soft for a bump run but once you know how itll react its perfect. I think im going to pick up the bentchetler 100 this season to replace my R10.
cozzeyWhat length are your R10s? I’m from Colorado and my R11s are the best things I’ve ever put on my feet.
