skiermanIts simple, NS sold the fuck out. Their parent company is a piece of shit and won't allow them to invest much money into members to create original content for the site, cover/host events, holding regular contests, etc. Look at Pinkbike. They hold legit contests like DH and Crankworx fantasy leagues, they pay a ton of people for content and coverage and they have a strong hold in the industry working with legends of the sport and partnering up with the best and most watched events.
DolanReloadedWasnt NS doing all that (event hosting etc) years ago?
What company bought newschoolers? Are the founders like Doug and them still partial owners or did they sell NS completely?

conorsuxThis is a terrible take. Pinkbike died ever harder than NS. The PB Photo of the Day (POD) on their homepage used to get 50 comments every day like clockwork, regularly would break 100. The POD today has two (2!!!) comments. The simplest explanation is the correct one - all the PB users get their bike content from instagram now, just like NS and skiing content.
skiermanYour opinion is based on how many comments the POD gets? How fucking stupid are you trying to look? PB consistently sponsors the biggest events in MTBing, they've partnered with multiple of the most popular bike parks in the world, they provide high quality daily updates at events with legends in the sport, ex-pros and long-time industry types like Richard Cunningham and as I stated already, they do huge contests with tens of thousands in prizes/money including picture of the year, 30 days of xmas, fantasy leagues, etc.
.
conorsuxComments are the lifeblood of an online community. Yeah PB is still still putting out great content and putting their name on stuff but my guess is it won't be for long because the community has evaporated. There's no traffic cause everyone gets their news on Instagram now. It's a ghost town just like here, and if you disagree you clearly have no idea what is was like in its heyday. I would guess they still survive to put out awesome stuff because they figured out how to monetize the events/event coverage they do and are still making money direct from the industry. But the userbase is long gone.

And as for the dick heads who say, "ITS YOUR FAULT! IF YOU WANT IT TO BE GREAT, YOU SHOULD DO SOMETHING TO MAKE IT GREAT!" Yeah bro, that mentality has worked out so well so far. People need incentive to keep it going, there needs to be investment on the side of NS to produce great content, otherwise you get dime-a-dozen shitty "articles" and edits. I never visit the forums on Pinkbike, they're killing it because they're investing back into the industry while NS is trying to leech off it. Its not their fault completely because they have a shitty parent company.
codizzleInstagram rendered Newschoolers obsolete with regard to content: video and photos.
As far as the forums go, I think it's still the place to go if you want to engage in an interesting conversation about twin-tip skiing. You can't really get that on FB or Insta or Twitter.
codizzlebut don't feel bad for Harvey and Doug - those two got paid years ago. They made $$$$ off the sale of NS.
VinnieFAlthough he has a valid point. How is it that PB is still doing very well while NS is dying off in two very comparable sports?
Just go look at website traffic rankings. It's pretty obvious NS is doing something very wrong, and whenever it's brought up Instagram and facebook are always to blame which clearly is a weak excuse when comparing it to PB.
Maybe, as he said, the big reason is that PB gives back significantly more to the community. How often do you see NS sponsored content on here that you can't get elsewhere? Very rarely.
Also an aside, for newschoolers.com:
Which search keywords send traffic to this site?
1. egg puns
1.61%
2. shredsauce
1.16%
3. newschoolers
0.91%
4. hennessy
0.75%
5. fish puns
0.60%
Yeaaaaaaa. Maybe it's time to look at how NS is managed as being the problem, not blaming the users.

mason_pachulskiMan it’s summer on a skiing website, what do you expect?
Park.I think there will always be a presence in both communities for the simple fact that everyone likes having a designated community. Everyone in skiing knows what NS is. that is saying something about how engrained it is in our culture. Of course IG will be bigger, but it also has an immensely bigger audience.

TGraham9This. It seems rare that we even get content from the contributors anymore. Whoever owns this site does not pay writers to product content. While it would not be the site it is today without its charismatic member base, NS would greatly benefit from hiring true contributors who are passionate about the industry and can product thought provoking articles daily.
skierman"We have a large budget for creating content as well as buying the rights to 3rd party content which is in play for the 2018-2019 season. "
Good to hear.
Mr.BishopYeah, we have certainly heard the calls for more original content.

-DanLet’s collab on an east coast video event. Joss/wcs vibes. Give me a budget, let me flex on some resorts with ur social reach, and I’ll put together a couple crews to make edits you have all the rights to.

Mr.BishopNot a bad idea, Hit me up. We're working on some similar concepts in other regions too - though nothing concrete has come together yet.
Chubz. If this doesn’t happen I’m quitting newschoolers forever
Swandog7I can tell you know trollhaugen has open arms
Mr.BishopOk, but what if we have a Killington re-union?
If you didn't come, I'd cry myself to sleep.
I've heard consistently that Troll is a pretty unreal place. Andy says that on the tour, that place has more energy than almost anywhere else on the planet.

Chubz. If we had a killington reunion ill cry tears of joy the second I walk into the condo. I haven’t seen you in 3 years Doug!! Its been wayyyyyy too long. We need Sam Kruggz, jwenz and dan in the mix.
Dont get me hyped up, this needs to happen.
DeebieSkeebiesIs it a bitch and a half trying to get something worked out with resorts out west here with a lot of them being such big players in the resort game? Like honestly, Its boring seeing the occasional World cup freeskiing event at Park City and even more boring seeing mogul and aerial world cups here in Utah every year. Snowbird has some freeride comps every season, or used to have really major ones, but I really want a "for skiers, by skiers" event without any of the watered down corporate bullshit, ya know?
Seems like events like Orage masters really overstayed their welcomes and resorts took notice.

SkibumsmithA lot of the ‘news articles’ that are featured on NS are absolute trash and lack depth compared to the content put out on pinkbike. That’s why I quit reading them.
I feel like a 5th grader opening up a scholastic news article when I read content on NS.
Mr.BishopGood news is that once they're two you can get right back to partying, so lets see if we can set something up this season. :)
Shewlur...However, I can tell you as a current college student who joined this site when I was quite young, plenty of people my age still post in forums. As someone said above, we shouldn't always blame intangibles when the reason NS died out is readily apparent. People my age just aren't interested in what NS has to offer anymore, aside from the skiing clips they post.
