I'm building a little jump so I can try to learn some tricks over the summer. I've primarily used a backhoe/tractor combo to get the rough shape of an inrun, jump and landing area but I'm not really that experienced with this stuff so I dont know the angles or how tall anything is supposed to be. So could someone take a look and tell me how it is? also since it doesnt snow that much in Ohio this time of year ;) I'm probably going to use astroturf or something.

You need to be at least 15' high imo. Depends what you're looking for. If you have access to a machine I'd try and draw it down more existing hill if possible. Also if you can move some dirt you can make it a little more drawn out then a super steep sketchy setup. Might be able to pull of a step down. You might have to still run some sort of frame so you can run strips of whatever surface you're using. Speed will be a big issue. At least if you just want to get onto a rail, it's not terrible but people struggle with that. Enough speed to actually learn tricks?
It might be more effort than it's worth honestly. But if you can move enough dirt, anythings possible. Curious to see the outcome.
Also Ive never actually had a summer set up, just ridden my friends and a few mtns. I wanted to build a small jump like you seem to be, but just didnt think I could generate enough speed. Then decided to build an 18' tall drop in for a dfd staircase style setup. Then I realized I was ruckung high and lived near nobody that would ever sesh it with me, and was working 60 hours a week at the mtn anyway to ride it much on my own.
Gave it away to a frend down near albany. I think it got cut in half and used for a drop in to flat rail.
Would have been cool to see it through, but just didnt have time to ride it. Pretty much was just solo riding my minirsmp in the driveway but at least i was like 14 when I built that and had too much time and energy.
Def take pics of the construction and maybe a vid of the speed. Always unterested to see what different peopkes setups generate. I dont think i ever hit a summer setup where we got too much speed for a rail even. Always was trying to get more or had just enough. A jump is a ton.
Think about what you would need if it was snow/ice. You can't drop in right above a jump and hit anything too big. Drops dont count as you probably arent sending huge stepdowns in the summer.
For what you could hit on flat grund even it needs to be pretty big. Ill throw in 5 towards fuel or 2x4s though. Give NS something to believe in.
Im going to suggest using landscaping fabric we used it as a landing on our setup at one point and we would pick up speed upon landing, it's much faster than turf
like I said I'm using a little tractor with a front loader and a backhoe so I can move a bit of dirt. I can always change it up anyways if the jump doesn't work, as so far my only real cost has been the diesel.
Sounds like fun! is the staircase setup the best style or should I do a flat ramp style?

also what mountain did you work at?

Idk, i never finished it but i had a bunch of 2x4s and was bored. Was going to try and have a bit of a slope to land on and then run out into a flat rail and get 2 hits per drop.
Yeah diesel isn't that cheap but if you have the machine on site you can get weird.
Hoping for great success but even if not, you'll still prolly get it open before the JerZ snowdome.

The stuff you can buy at lowes i has a kind of slippery feel to it. The thicker stuff is more carpety. Not sure how well it would hold up with just being placed on dirt though.
