fredferlandYes and no, competition is a good thing but I feel like Instagram wants the monopoly in terms of content, which I think sucks and isn't fair
Competition is a good thing for the consumer, not the company.
Does the Apple want people to buy Samsung phones? Does Line want people to buy ON3P Skis? No - not at all, they're businesses and gaining market share is the name of the game. Instagram is just trying to increase their piece of the pie.
I am curious to hear what some of the content creators on here think of this. It doesn't necessarily have the same impact on our small 'ski-world bubble,' but we're currently undergoing somewhat of a 'content arms race' Think about all the shows Netflix, Hulu, HBO etc. are investing millions of dollars into. It's a creators market right now and I imagine new (relative) platforms like Instagram are really helping people make names for themselves. Personally, I can think of TONS of skiers who wouldnt have nearly as much of a following if not for these new apps. Hell, HoodCrew basically shot feature lengths on snapchat.
I'd love to hear from some other members more "in the game" about how this has been effecting the progression of our sport.
