Near-death experience

Have you every had one? Was it quick or did you have time to process what was going on in the moment? Was it skiing or something else?

I got stuck in a tree well this year skiing at whitefish and thought after 30 minutes I might not make it out. Before that I didn't think twice about skiing in the woods. Now I'm kind of paranoid. It makes me wonder how many people have actually gone out for a day of skiing and thought "OK I may not come home today."

Last deer season I was walking back from my stand the cabin to warm up and get some food and as I was walking back 2 cougars charged at me and I had just enough time to pop a few shots off with my SKS killing 1 and the other ran away. After that experience I always keep a gun on me when I go into the woods. If I had left my gun in the stand I would have been mauled.

I was once skiing in the woods and got reallly lost I had no clue where i was and one of my bindings decided to pop off :). Not only i was lost but i had to carry both of my skis in deep pow and it was getting dark, luckily i found one of the pistes and went down. Scary af, lol.

Me and my friend went off-piste at a spot where we had never been before. Long story short, i was gonna jump 180 because there were no room to turn because 3 meters in front of me was a 8 meter drop. I failed on my 180 and did a 90. Skis started sliding towards the ledge thus i layed down and caught onto a cut of tree. The snow was loose and powder, so the more i fought to drag myself upwards, the more i slid downwards towards the 8 meter drop. My friend was at the bottom om the cliff because he took an alternative route, and he warned me that there were rocks at the bottom. Right before i lost my grip, i jammed one of my skis on a tree besides me that i was unable to reach before now because i had to pull myself a couple of inches to get it. I also have no upper body strenght so it was a pain in the ass. I cried that day

One time I was spectating at Red Bull Slope Soakers and some drunk loser crashed into me and broke my collar bone.

I crashed a john deere gator into a barbed wire fence at 30mph. Got a strand of barbed wire wrapped around my neck and it barely missed my jugular. Without the brush guard on the front of the gator I would've gotten 5 more strands to the neck and face and probably would've died. Scary shit it still gives me nightmares

got held down for a solid minute bodyboarding during hurricane Irma. that was scary as fuck. really makes you think about the power of the ocean. you have absolutely no control and it fucking heavy.

not like during the storm itself. when theres a major hurricane in the Atlantic it brings a swell to a majority of the eastern seaboard. so its not like its stormy and rough. its usually glassy with larger surf depending on the wind. so like, right before the storm hits and right after.obviously during the actual storm its mad rough and choppy with the extreme winds

Not to doubt you, but this story sounds very unbelievable.

1- Cougars don't hunt in pairs. Other than when they mate, they are very solitary animals.

2- Cougars are ambush predators. If a cougar was going to attack you, you wouldn't know it was coming until it had already pounced on you. Even if you did see it the moment it leaped from hiding to attack, you would barely have time to shoulder your firearm let alone aim or fire a few shots.


If you did kill a cougar and have pictures of a dead cougar, I would bet that you attracted it to your tree stand with deer calls or estrous or whatever you're using, it didn't notice you there until it got within your shot, so you killed it from your stand without it knowing you were there. That sounds far more believable.

I was 15 and working on a farm when I got tboned in a gator. I was making a left hand turn into a driveway-I signaled and everything.

The women in the f150 behind me sped up to pass me. The only thing I heard was the tires chirp and then I got smoked.

She hit the back of the tailgate and spun me three times.

Those gators are the tough shit on earth though. Big dent was the only damage to the gator. Her truck was totaled. From the brake marks we figured she had hit me going about 70mph.

Thank god I was wearing my seatbelt. It was an open door gator (like most of them) and I would have gotten thrown across the pavement for sure.

I ended up just being able to free myself from the tree well by taking off a ski and using it as a ladder rung sort of thing to float above the deep snow and unweight my leg that was stuck, so I could kick it back and out... kind of hard to explain with words haha. But it ended up being a good hour of trying other stuff before I got out, and then a significant amout of time just pushing against the snow. There was plenty of time to panic lol, since it was the end of the day, on a back bowl with very few people.

Fuck man, tree wells are the real deal

Got stuck in 3 feet of powder once this year at snowbird face down and my arms couldn't find anything to push against for the first minute to right myself. Had the suffocation experience, and it was pretty scary. It really is just a plug in your mouth.

Had two folks die in tree well this season at Bachelor. Glad you are still alive. Gotta take those serious.

What's up fellas hoping I wouldn't have anything to put in this thread but here I am. Currently at beartooth. Pass has been closed the last two days so we did a few hikes to the rock Creek headwall. So currently there's three chutes and we wanted to be at the middle one. So we radioed down to our shuttler at the bottom who said we were in the middle chute even though we weren't, we were at the left chute (sketchy as fuck). Definite no fall zone. I dropped first and began my descent, my ski finally broke, folded in half and I started sliding towards rocks face first. Luckily I got around and stopped myself about 5 feet from the rocks. I'm fine apart from a slight knee injury. As I was sliding I thought I was gonna hit the rocks I thought I was done. I'm still just amazed at my luck.

Also I have a video of the ski bending and the beginning of my fall if you'd like me to post it.
