If you could never ski again

im sure there have been threads like this before but...

What would you do if you all of the sudden couldnt ski ever again. Like if something medical came up that took away your ability to take part in what you love. (assuming that your as in love with skiing as me)

for me atleast, idk what id do. Skiing is what got me out of my severe depression. And if i didnt have it id for sure fall back into it again. I feel like getting a job within the ski industry wouldnt help as much as youd think because for me, im attracted to skiing by the independent aspect of it. like the feeling of being alone on a lift where its just you and the mountain and nothing else really matters. Fuck that would suck.

your thoughts?

If you can't ski with your legs, you can still ski with your nose.


But really Idk. I def don't go out as much as I used to but I get at least one solid day every week with friends, and sometimes another day or two where I'll go out for a few hours in the morning after work. But to not be able to go at all would fucking blow. Considering I've done 17 seasons in the ski industry, and been following winter around, have all this god damn ski gear etc, I would be pretty lost.

Hopefully I'd still be passionate enough about building to get out there in that aspect. If not maybe I would get a job running equipment somewhere and drink more heavilyerish.

Skiing is probs the only thing I really, really love to do. If I couldn't ski, Id most likely live in a country that doesn't have snow in the winter. Then I could put all of my time I would put into skiing, into tricking and get nasty at it. I have been doing tricking for like a year now and it's been pretty fun but not as fun as skiing ofc.. Nothing compares to the feelings you get when you are out there getting it, stomping tricks, grinding for a trick for the whole day and finally landing it, you name it..

Other than tricking, I would spend time playing videogames, playing basketball, cracking open some cold ones with the boys and doing other activities that are available, perhaps picking up hiking or mtn biking, who knows.

All in all, I couldn't imagine myself living without skiing at all. Skiing has impacted my life too much for that. That day when I can't ski will come eventually but fuck that, I will shred as long as I can!

my instant reaction was I have so many other sports, but skiing is the reason I live where I live. Its the reason I am who I am. Its the reason I save up all summer to work week on week off in the winter.

I dont do it as much but my world revolves around it.

Id start kite boarding.

Id probably train on garden trampoline a lot, thats acutaly my summer sport.
But considering that throwing good tricks, for exampletriples gtramp requieres you to be on a better shape than doubles on skiing id probably wouldnt be able to gramp if I cant ski.
If I cant ski ill always find a sport to try to replace it, even tho there isnt any as quite as fun as skiing for me.
Living whitout a sport for me would be like living whitout a purpouse, theres nothing that I would live for, so i'll probably get on a depresion for a long time untill ill find another sport. Videogames, girls, or drugs just cant fill that spot for me.

There are many ways to ski. OAS even skis old folks from "retirement homes"

Playing a hell of a lotta shredsauce is what I'd be doing. For real though, this thread makes me wanna preach about helmets. if you love to ski and wanna keep doing it for a long time, helmets are pretty sick, they can help you with that.

I always thought tricking was like parkour but more about the flips etc than just moving through obstacles with speed.

jacque im not trying to rip on you or anything, but, for the last time. its a what if question. obviously there are many other substitutes for skiing for disabilities. but, what if you couldnt take part in ANY OF THEM. i well aware of monoskiing and all that stuff. im talking about not having any of that.

Yea, okay. I misunderstood your OP then. I guess I would look for thrills wherever I could. I like sports cars & motorcycles.
Maybe I could still do one of those things.
Maybe I will die skiing. Just fall over and have a heart attack in the lift line. Then I won't have to think about it.
Anyway, since you put me straight, that's a really hard question to deal with.

Tricking flips are different to freeruning flips, even tho a lot of the flips are similar. You will never see a cast-away or a wall flip on a tricking battle, as well as you will never see a tornado kick on freeruning/ parkur.
Do you gtramp also? if not u should try becouse it will help you on getting your twisting tricks faster and better

I just cant ski: hike, run, climb.
If I couldn't do anything active: read, guitar, try to be on some Stephen Hawking by getting super smart and saving the world, photography.

That said I am hesitant to believe anyone in the world loves skiing anymore than me (but you can probably tie), so it would be a huge challenge to be positive about the situation.

Actually went through this after a car accident.
Went to therapy for a long time for it.
For real though, get a good therapist if this ever happens because it fucked me right up.

i have recently found my love for riverboating, kayaks and rafting. i would probably get insanely good at fingerboarding or something like that as well.
